“I can think of nothing that would be a greater legacy for Dr. King than for us to embrace across parties...”
Sometimes it pays to keep quiet rather than pander to political correctness.
Some people remember the real Martin Luther King. Fan of the Highlander Folk School. Friend of Bayard Rustin. Associate of Stanley Levinson and Hunter Pitts O’Dell. Mentor to Jesse Jackson.
You all know Jesse Jackson. Look up the other ones. The Kennedy brothers wiretapped MLK and it wasn’t because they considered him a rightwing kook.
Culture is upstream of politics. 90% of this country think MLK, Jr. is just slightly lower than The Christ or is the savior of the blacks. Ted Cruz is dealing with that reality. As he must.
Think of the Founder of The Church of Latter Day Saints, Joseph Smith, when he was found drinking, blaspheming, smoking cigars, having coffee with loose gentile women, and just generally carrying on, contrary to the rules he set up for the rest of his church. He said, "Boys, I am a Prophet. I ain't no saint." He was martyred by a lynch mob and his church became stronger than ever.
The martyred MLK certainly earned the same status. I cannot help thinking that he would be a great help in averting the racial disaster that Team Obama is maliciously brewing in this country right now.
