Both parties are to blame. Bush brought in thousands of Iraqi refugees, praised Islam as a great religion, and put a Koran in the White House. This is insanity, as is sending troops overseas to fight terrorists. These disparate groups of terrorists scattered all over the world are not an army; they can’t fly over here, land on our shores and invade the US. They can attack us because we have welcomed into our midst, and while we are wasting our money and troops over there, they are growing in numbers and becoming more of a threat here.
There is only one solution and no politician will do it. Ban Islam in civilized countries until Muslim countries become civilized and tolerant. Deport Muslims. Institute a “pet the pig” requirement before boarding a plane. Put US troops on our border and stop illegal immigration.
Bush had exactly the wrong strategy and after 13 years of fruitless war, that should be obvious. Eliminating Islamic terrorists in all the countries in which they are present would require genocide, and that isn’t going to happen. Keeping Islam out of the US would prevent most, if not all, Muslim terror attacks on US soil.
If they attack US interests overseas, tell them we’ll nuke Mecca. Sending troops to fight as if this were WWII all over again will not work.
Either the west is serious about solving this problem, or it will continue to pay lip service to fighting the “war on terror”, wasting resources and the lives of our men and women in uniform in a perpetual conflict that does nothing to prevent terror attacks at home.

In a situation like that, delaying the thugs only seconds is a lot, as it gives innocents time to start running and putting obstacles between them and the line of fire. I just don't see Muslim attackers behaving the same between attacking sheep and attacking against live fire.

In a truly armed society such attacks would fail. 200 people open fire on the terrorists. But that isn’t the society we have. I can’t find any numbers, but I suspect in most places, most of the time, CCWs are no more than 1% or 2% of a crowd.
If we did have the truly armed society where 200 people open fire, we’d probably have a LOT of collateral damage.
You are making the assumption that if more people qualified for CCW the quality of carriers would decline considerably.

Though you’re also quite right. If 90% of populace got CCW it would by definition include a lot lower quality people than the present 1% to 10%, who I think are in general a pretty elite group.
After all, 50% of the population is of below average IQ.

That sounds like a reasonable guess to me.
This would be a totally different country at 10% CCW. NOT ONE talking head these days has understood the implications of just how appropriate is the militia for dealing with an internal threat such as terrorism. Just put a price on their heads with heavy penalties for false arrest. If we want these creeps rounded up, that's the way to get it done. Hell, there would be an industry training people how to infiltrate those groups overnight.

I think perhaps there are multiple reasons that the political case do not want this:
hysteria buttonthat they can press.
And our President is in the thick of it, while France had no true representation from the USA to walk arm in arm with them against Terrorism.
I think we're on the same page there. We could easily deal with illegals the same way.
