Thanks for the Ping. RIP Miss Ekberg.
Ping a roo Bender
RIP as well Miss Ekberg.
I recall seeing a picture of Anita Ekberg glaring at Gina Lollobrigida while they sat at a table in beautiful gowns with other stars because Gina was hunched over with a nip slip. That's when I was a boy. Back then the women were gorgeous and tantalizing.
Sounds like the Sophia Loren - Jayne Mansfield photo.
Could be, my memory is dim looking so many years back.
The poster for "Call Me Bwana" prominently featuring Anita Ekberg (and her mouth) played a pivotal part in a key scene in "From Russia With Love". RIP.
She was great in “La Dolce Vita”.
She was “vacker”. (Seriously Swedish language?)
RIP.
That was in house advertising. Movie was produced by the Bond production company. In the book it was a Marilyn Monroe movie. While she wasn’t ever a Bond girl she was married at the time to Rick Van Nutter who played Felix Leiter in Thunderball.
Yeah, I’m aware it was a pretty blatant plug for another Broccoli-Saltzman picture (when I finally got around to seeing it, it was a pretty big Bob Hope stinker). One could still say Anita was a de facto Bond girl via that poster “appearance” (and explicitly mentioned by Pedro Armendariz’s Ali Kerim Bey character).
I totally remember that Bond scene.
Kerim Bey: - "She has a lovely mouth, that Anita."
Ok....but that is stretching it a bit. :)
I actually didn’t recall that she had been married to Van Nutter (I thought he made for a rather subpar Leiter in “Thunderball”). That was her second and last husband. She never did have any kids.
In her prime, WB until I needed an IV.
