Of course, our old friend Van Jones, teamed up with Reverend Jackson, has cooked up a graft befitting the 21st century:

“Van Jones, founder of #YesWeCode, an ambitious project to teach 100,000 low-income youth to code, said the talent is out there: It just needs someone to provide opportunity.”

Yeah, let’s hire a slew of folks based on skin color alone. That’s a good idea. And let’s put them in charge of major programs. That’s another good plan, uh huh. /sarc

People who are taught to code are worthless hires.

The best hires are the people who start coding on their own because they want to code. Training, guidance and formalization of processes are come later for these people.

There is a whole internet full of information about coding. If someone wants to code, they can.

Hell, my 11 year old codes roblox and minecraft games in lua and java. I haven’t taught him. He wanted to do it and asks Mr Google for guidance when he needs it.

As a shareholder I am appalled by this. The mission of a company is to succeed with products to the benefit o its shareholders.

The problem is that Jackson and Sharpton now have the backing of Obama and Holder. If Intel didn’t comply, the US Government would issue subpoenas, stick the IRS on them, and other shakedown tactics.

Oh, and Intel execs will have to make a massive donation to Dem candidates and super PACS and not donate to Republicans.

So a Computer Science grad is a worthless hire?

These rap pin’ geniuses can’t read or write or speak English after dropping out of high school...or after graduating from rotten high schools...so just paying off Jesse will be a lot easier than trying to pass this shake down as an educational opportunity.

I don’t see your post as being “sarcastic”, it has been going on for eons, it’s call Affirmative Action.

I already have to 'work-around' the Black people at the VA to get decent service there. This is just hiring more unmotivated incompetents to get in the way of real work.

I'm not kidding, folks.

I swear, when I think of the effort and hard work I made through-out my life (I'm 71) to climb out of the poverty of a 'share-cropper' family I can't believe the opportunities GIVEN to people who seem not to care at all...gimme,gimme, gimme.

My son has made it 'over-the-hump' by getting a PhD in physics.(No student loans what-so-ever)

Some folks have the drive to succeed. When I took my last job, it started with a 95 cents an hour cut from my previous job. As it turned out, one of my bosses “recognized” me as possibly having some talent/potential and that plus a LOT of hard work ended up providing me a career that lasted 36 years going from a labor grade 7 mechanic to a senior engineering position. You MUST seek out your opportunities. Folks can’t sit waiting for it to come knockin’ on the door.

Intel will invest in just about anything to look for value.
If it doesn’t work, it’ll go away. HP used to be the same way. Dave expected 90% of projects to fail. I worked for both.

rktman has it correct this is a mafia operation.

Most of the people hired in this operation will be Ghost Employees. They will rarely if ever show up to work and will receive a paycheck regardless.

Jackson will supply a list of names as good acceptable hires for Intel to choose from if Itel wants the issue to die.

Intel will hire the agreed upon number. The hires will report for work, get badged and never be seen again.

Not at all. But someone who studies CS without being a code geek is worthless. Most if not all of the CS people I have hired were code geeks long before college.

College formalizes their understanding of design patterns and implementation strategy.

What we are talking about here is training a bunch of people to code, as if they are flipping burgers and manning a manufacturing line. It’s asinine.

I do believe we should provide tools to young underprivileged people who want to code. Get them a raspberry pi, a keyboard and mouse. Give them educational resources to explore and learn. The kids who do it WILL be coders.
