Billionaire Tom Steyer Mulls Run For Sen. Boxer's Seat July 2014 Tom Steyer, former hedge fund titan, has been huddling with advisors, polling voters, buying web addresses and meeting with political and labor leaders, sources say. By SEEMA MEHTA AND MICHAEL FINNEGAN

Tom Steyer, a former hedge fund manager and a major political donor, considers a run for Sen. Boxer's seat. Billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer is aggressively exploring a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer and is expected to make a decision within days, according to multiple sources close to Steyer.

The former hedge fund titan has been huddling with advisors, polling California voters, buying website addresses and meeting with political and labor leaders as he weighs a bid, the sources said.

Boxer's announcement Thursday that she would leave her post in 2016 set off a frenzy of speculation about who would run for the first open U.S. Senate seat in California in more than 20 years. If Steyer opts in, with the ability to fund a race expected to cost tens of millions of dollars, he could upend a field that would otherwise be crowded with other ambitious Democrats.

Boxer, only thing she did was to drum Bob Packwood out of the senate so the senate could flip to dem when Oregon's Governor replaced him with a democrat.

Just another paperweight, otherwise.

This is why he was donating all that money. So he could force one of them to retire and buy the seat.

I wouldn’t spend one nickel on contesting either Senate seat in Malifornia. Those are forevermore locked down as democrat territory.

Oregon’s Governor lacks the power to appoint a Senator to fill a vacancy. The seat stayed empty until the rat Ron Wyden narrowly defeated Gordon Smith in a special election.

Behind the scenes a-hole thinking of stepping out of the shadows to be the next ulta-rich rat Senator, there is an opening since Rockerfeller is gone.

I don’t care who replaces babs. No one, not even Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin is more leftist and would do more harm than her.

I wonder what folks think of the idea that Tom Del Beccaro might run? .........I received some emails this morning that he might run for Boxer’s seat. Also heard that Villagraiso might run on the Dem side....
