I once had that discussion with a middle school student in American History class. She brought up the subject and whined that her granny was an illegal. “Whaa, people are sooo mean! She’s a good grandma!” The class warned me she’d never understand but I stepped in. I asked if she had doors on her house - yes. Did she lock her doors - yes. Wait, you lock your doors because you don’t want strangers wandering into your house - uh, yeah.
