Absolutely correct. JFK made a speech and promise using a program already in place and running by the time he took office. Who started that program? Why, it was Ike and his VP Richard Nixon was in charge of setting it up. I remember the inauguration of the program; big news after sputnik and I remember the presentation of the first 7 astronauts. Karma took an interesting turn when they landed that evening in 1969; Richard Nixon, the first person in charge of the program was president after being literally cheated out of the office by JFK and LBJ in 1960.
JFK was mythology at its worst.
