So in other words, it’s a $68 billion project to build a method of transit that combines the longer time of driving with the lack of convenience of flying (that is, arriving without a car).

If you took a self driving car from LA to San Fran, you would get there as fast, would still be able to use the time in the car productively, and have a car at your destination.

Based on the cost and the fare, it would take 441,558,442 passengers just to pay for the construction cost. How many people actually travel between LA and San Francisco in a year?
