The book is not in my library, unfortunately. Sounds like a fun read.

The Battle of the Bulge is turning into that Highway of Death or whatever it was in Gulf War I. Although I'm guessing we won't stop the battle on our own accord due to the fear of bad press.

I though the story of the barmaid saying the road had been mined was great. VERY quick thinking, and brave of her. Who knows how many more days and miles of German progress was halted, and how many of our boys were saved because of one act.

Just like at the beginning of the battle where a handful of our guys with bazookas held a tank column in check for 24 hours.

Monty's ego knew no bounds. As far as I can tell the only thing he did in response to the Bulge was send a British Corps to block the Meuse crossings, a sound military move but hardly one that won the battle. Patton's drive to Bastogne began December 22, but Monty couldn't get moving by the promised January 1. And then he gave the job to First Army.

Yet the guy gives a press conference taking credit for all Allied success in stopping and rolling back the offensive. And you know what? I bet he actually believed it.
