No real conservative would want to stay away from their work for 3+ months. Getting out of serving on this jury would be a piece of cake. Just say what you feel.
3 months away from work is bad but when I was on the docket for federal jury duty (you are on the list for 2 weeks but only go to possibly be seated when they say so), you got $100 day for appearing (plus parking, meals, and lodging if necessary). It may have gone up since then.
It isn’t like the $5 a day you get in local jury duty.
No real conservative would shirk their civic duty.
That being said the last murder trial I sat on I made clear to both sides I was my ships legal officer (collateral duty, non-JAG) when I was in the service.
The judge only gave a certain number of exclusions to each side. I could see the defense guy mulling it over in his head, but he only had a one left and 4 more seats to fill so he put me in. Verdict was pretty cut and dry, only question that came up was on intent.
