....she never regretted her claim to fame.

“Today the role of Elly May has been a beautiful opportunity, a wonderful little door opener for me to share my heart with others, whether speaking in churches, ladies conferences, youth groups, schools, conventions, and various civic organizations, or one on one,” her website bio said. “Amazing what God can do with a life, if given the opportunity!”

Douglas was married twice and is survived by a son, Danny Bourgeois.

I’m feeling really old about now.

My feelings exactly. I watched this show when I was a little kid. How could this young woman have gotten to be 81 years old!

She was only a few years younger than my mother. God Bless her and her family.

I have wondered whether the writers for many of the TV shows in the fifties and sixties were older writers in radio comedy. The writing would have been funny without images but it was drop dead funny with visible actors.

Samantha of Bewitched, Jannie of I dream of Jeannie, along with Kate's 3 Daughters on Petticoat Junction, along with Ely May, helped a lot of little boys get through Puberty.

As a young teen I never tired of watching Ellie May pose and gyrate on that TV show.

May she rest in peace, she brought happy moments to a lot of people, celebrating the rural fems of America.

As baby boomers grew up, we were lucky to have been exposed to the greatest of actors, the best music, TV shows, etc. Classic stuff in every way.
Now look at what's on TV, Hollyweird is an immoral cesspool, the movies suck, and the music industry has been hi-jacked for decades by the most violent, sickest culture in American history.

“Now look at what’s on TV, Hollyweird is an immoral cesspool, the movies suck, and the music industry has been hi-jacked for decades by the most violent, sickest culture in American history.”

I don’t have cable or broadcast TV and rarely go to the movies because I feel that all three of those sources of entertainment have too much obscenity and left wing cant.

I am in charge of my family’s moral development and I will have none of that claptrap in my home.

Besides that, the writing is horrible. Most of the humor is the same stuff we laughed at in Junior High (but we got better, LOL). Absolutely abysmal writing.

You want good writing? Mayberry RFD is well known in the writing community as the school for comedy writers and comedians. How to write it, how to deliver it, how to reprise a one liner in another joke down the line. It is all there. Complete in all respects.

While I am feeling old at the news, her role was one of a long line of comedic honoring of Southern Women. Remember the bodacious ladies of Al Capp's Dogpatch?

Li'll Abner's perpetual sweetheart, Daisy Mae!

Then we had Daisy & Elly's direct descendant in the "Dukes of Hazard's" Daisy Duke - (oh those hot pants!)

But no one should ignore the genuine article of talented, comedic and bodacious Southern Womanhood that is ...

Dolly Parton!

Word of caution, engage parental blocks before searching for "Daisy Mae" images - WHEW!
