At awkward time, Wisconsin's Walker faces GOP rift
Yahoo News ^ | 01/02/2015 | SCOTT BAUER

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican Gov. Scott Walker has rolled over his Democratic opponents in Wisconsin, shutting down their allies in labor unions, stuffing the attempts to recall him and handily winning re-election last month.

But as he prepares for the possibility of taking his winning record into a campaign for president, Walker is running into trouble from an unexpected source: his own overwhelmingly Republican Legislature.

Walker, who's trying to polish an image of a governor who gets things done efficiently, is confronting lawmakers who want to flex their increased political power by wading into difficult issues, such as right-to-work legislation, to score major conservative victories.

The governor wants no part of it. He wants a buttoned-down agenda centered on the budget and tax cuts, done on a brisk campaign-friendly schedule, and is skirting big showdowns that could take months and bring hordes of protesters back into the streets in Madison, much like the turmoil of his first months in office. Walker enraged labor unions after taking office in 2011 by passing legislation that effectively ended public employee unions' bargaining rights, sparking weeks of demonstrations and a recall election that Walker survived.

His message about the new right-to-work efforts hasn't been getting through.

"My preference has consistently been I would just prefer not to have it," Walker said when asked recently about taking up right-to-work legislation that is a life-or-death issue for organized labor. Right-to-work laws prevent compulsory union membership or dues.

He might as well push for right to work legislation. It makes sense and the unions are going to fight him big time anyway. So he might as well get one last shot in on them.

So much for being a Leader!

He’s running away from the fight for “Right to Work” legislation because he believes, like the current Congressional GOP-E leadership, that he shouldn’t rock the boat if he wants to become POTUS.

If the legislature wants to pass RTW, what is stopping it? Walker can sign the bill or not, his discretion. Then it becomes an issue, but not beforehand. This seems like another hit piece.

Plus, as you undoubtedly know, SoCon, he’s massively pro-amnesty/open borders. There’s reason that he succeeded as the county exec for liberal Milwaukee.

“...In addition to right-to-work legislation, conservatives are talking about social issues, such as... making it more difficult for prosecutors to launch secret “John Doe” investigations, which are Wisconsin’s version of a grand jury probe....”
**********************************************************************************************************
I don’t see why Walker would NOT want to rein in this abusive procedure. And to call it a “version of a grand jury probe” is totally erroneous. The ‘RATS use this to oppress and suppress conservatives in expressing their first amendment rights and that NEEDS TO END.

I hope Walker isn’t “evolving” into a go along to get along Republican who has become of making waves.

Agreed. If they don’t end this John Doe crap they are just slitting their own throats.

He just needs to know where on the bill to affix his signature if he doesn’t want to get involved.

How do you get open border pro amnesty from this?

http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2014-12-03/wisconsins-scott-walker-joins-immigration-lawsuit-ahead-of-possible-2016-bid

Walker has a lot on his plate, he's agreed that Obama's executive order is wrong from the above. As for the stance on right to work, I'm not sure what his logic is, but im going with the guy who killed the public unions in this state, balanced the budget, enacted voter registration reform, cut taxes, speaks of God out loud and is anti abortion. But then for many of you folks here, he's just not good enough for you. Sheesh

Walker to GOP legislators:

"Sit down,
sit down,
sit down,
sit down,
sit down, you're rockin' the boat!"

Walker has said both that he’d expect citizenship for current illegals somewhere down the line, and he wants to stop illegal border crossings from being a problem by making it possible for everyone who wants to immigrate here—whether they’re from Mexico or any other country—to do so legally and easily.

That’s an open borders guy.

Walker supports unlimited legal immigration.

http://www.mofopolitics.com/2014/07/23/see-i-told-you-god-destroying-scott-walker-to-clear-the-field-for-rand-paul-or-ted-cruz/

Consumed with winning over Sheldon Adelson and Tom Donahue, Scott Walker neglected conservatives…

Walker endorsed Marco Rubio’s amnesty plan.
Walker came out against additional border security.
Walker came out against repealing Obamacare.
Walker came out against spending cuts.
Walker endorsed the Ryan-Murray budget deal.
Walker prostrated himself before Sheldon Adelson.
Walker illegally coordinated with Karl Rove.

As Rick Perry might say, “oops”…

Walker is not the perfect conservative that people say.

I daresay Rand is still better than him. Im no Rand fan but the last thing we need is another executive GOPer who conservatives roll over for.

At least if Rand is president the law and order Republicans, neocons and other groups will beat him up and give him some humiliity.

Exactly!

He stated this explicitly in a video that has been recorded to a local newspaper and then tried to walk it back once everyone found out about it and started beating him up on it.

He's as Open-Borders as GWB was and is.

I think Walker would make a good president, but his work in Wisconsin has only just started he needs to stay where he is and harden the foundation he has laid, there are no term limits there so he has time to do that, he has done so much; leaving it all to chance now would subject the state to a full progressive assault that could ruin his work thus far, it is still very touch and go there he is the only one with the experience to see it through.

I know very little about Wisconsin but have observed his efforts with great respect.

Walker supports amnesty. If it weren’t for that, I’d support him.

As far as governors go, the top 2 prospects are Perry and Pence.

Martinez is a good 3rd choice governor, but mostly as a VP candidate.

Both Perry and Pence support Amnesty in some regards.

Perry is the worst, he is definitely an open-borders guy.

Pence confuses his emotions on this issue with his Christianity and his stated plan also provides for a certain level of Amnesty.

The only GOP guv who’s really strong on illegal immigration is OK’s two-term governor Mary Fallin. She’s got a solid background and would be my candidate if she’d run, but I’ve got no sense that she’s planning to do so.

Pence simply does not.

Perry, in the last election, was tolerant of the dreamers. I think he’s changed his tune a bit on that.

•Voted YES on building a fence along the Mexican border. (Sep 2006)
•Voted YES on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment. (May 2004)
•Voted YES on extending Immigrant Residency rules. (May 2001)
•Rated 100% by FAIR, indicating a voting record restricting immigration. (Dec 2003)
•Rated 92% by USBC, indicating a sealed-border stance. (Dec 2006)
•End Birthright Citizenship; no more anchor babies. (Apr 2009)
•Declare English as the official language of the US. (Feb 2007)
