Our new year is now big in China. Still bigger in Hong Kong than the Chinese new year.
Prayers to all involved...

Yes,in February. We had a friend in Beijing wish us a happy new year today. I’ve never seen a celebration in China at this day.

Simply too many people in one area.
If the ground is slippery or some start to panic, uncontrollable pushing will crush those unable to get out.
I’ve seen it in Hong Kong 20+ years ago. Revellers pushing into an enclosed restaurant and bar area from 3 different directions. Those in the middle getting crushed start to panic or fall. Chaos then spreads.

Our New Year, Christmas and other traditions and customs are becoming more popular in China because of the influence of young Chinese who come here to go to the university then return to China. In China they are called, “sea turtles” because they leave but then return. ;-)
I was surprised to hear that they even celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the same day as we do.
However, these celebrations are for the ‘common-folk’ but not the government.

As I read this I was thinking some kind of animal stampede, but this is a people stampede, scary as I get very paranoid in crowds, have been ever since a Stones concert back in the late 60’s, I can get physically ill in conventions, big box stores, malls, Disney World and such.

I worry about something like this in the event of a terrorist strike in Time Square. Panic is an ugly thing.
