I have read, heard and been reminded that cops have discretion in what laws they enforce. Courts have time and again backed them on that point. If those cops had no problem with decent people being armed then they would not arrest them nor confiscate their firearms.

AMEN. Second it.

“PRAYER TO
SAINT MICHAEL
THE ARCHANGEL

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..”

....And also a little prayer does not hurt either.

I see you’re not much for the Second Amendment. Also, I’ve lived in NYC.

Attacks on police are merely taking the leftist attacks on civilization to the next level. They want maurauding bands of vicious thugs to control the streets.

While that may be true, cops still have the discretion to not enforce (unconstitutional!) gun control laws, but from what I understand they are rearing to do it. If NYC had no sway over my life I’d be ok with that, but since people like Hillary! and Charles Schumer vote for pieces of crap, it matters.

Marauding bands of thugs only have sway in places where people can’t defend themselves.

The leftists want a civil war, no matter how many feral thugs die. The leftists don’t care about the feral thugs, just want to use them to maximize chaos so the left can move in and provide prison-planet security for all.

I know you mean well, but don’t put the NYPD on par with US soldiers. If the NYPD was a unit of soldiers, they’d all be in the brig.

That’s damning with a very broad brush. Are you on the right site?

A unit of soldiers turning their backs on their commanding officer and refusing to do their job because it’s too dangerous...what do you think would happen to them? Soldiers don’t have union bosses. Cops are civilians.

In this case, I think I was on the side of sanity and you are a tad delusionary.

That does not mean the NYPD does not deserve respect. It just means they are not soldiers.

You are probably too young to know what the term fragging means or to have heard of officers being thrown out of second story windows in barracks. A unit that reached the point of mass disrespect would have new leadership.

In this case they are not reacting to the danger of the job, they are reacting to the expressed contempt of their leader, the leader who in a sane world would be calling for calm and the respect of the rule of law.

It did sound like you were disrespecting the entire NYPD force, that’s why I called you on it.

You both make good points, but here's the thing: law-abiding citizens don't carry in NYC. Whenever you find a gun on the street it's being carried by a criminal and being used for no good. If it's a store keeper who uses an "illegal" gun to protect himself from a robbery, he will not be arrested. The worst that will happen is the gun will be confiscated until he gets the proper permits.

Is the NYPD perfect? of course not. My old partner used to say this about the job: "The NYPD is 25,000 of the greatest people you will ever meet. Too bad there's 35,000 of us."

The reason only criminals carry guns in NYC is because citizens are denied carry permits to do so, therefore, “when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.” At least on the streets.

As for your claim that law-abiding citizens won’t be arrested, perhaps you are unfamiliar with the case of Ron Dixon: http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=123703 “Dixon had shot the intruder. “I fired at him twice. He fell down the stairs and he lay at the bottom of the stairs,” Dixon said.

The intruder, Ivan Thompson, survived. He’s a career criminal who’s been arrested 19 times and convicted of criminal trespass, burglary and attempted assault. Thompson is now being held in New York’s Rikers Island jail. [...] So how was the hero treated? He was arrested and charged with “criminal possession of a weapon” — threatened with up to a year in jail, because his gun was unlicensed.”

This simply does not comport with a right to keep and bear arms, and those who enforce such laws are no friends of liberty.

If those claims are all so groundless as you assert then why are so many of them being acknowledged with such significant settlements? And why is it that the problems in Staten Island are centered around the narcotics unit? And why are the narcotics units in the neighboring precincts not having the same problem?

And I would never live in New York City. I’ll probably never visit, either. I saw enough of it when I changed planes for London last year and that was enough for me.

My advice to you is to get out of there and come out West and find a nice Sheriff department where you won’t have the problems you’ve had in NYC. In Park County we have our problems, it’s true, but all of our problems for the entire year would probably still not amount to a slow morning for you.

All the best and Happy New Year to you!

Megan
