Leadership: An Army couple is told to move their wedding from the 16th tee of a golf course so President Obama can play through. Is it any wonder that his approval rating among the military is at a record low?
Just 15% of active-duty service members gave their commander in chief a thumbs-up in the most recent Military Times survey, with 55% saying they disapproved of the job that President Obama is doing. It certainly didn't help his image when two Army captains were told hours before their wedding that they had to move it so Obama could play through on the golf course they had selected as the nuptial site.
The president called to apologize to Captains Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. for interrupting their plans to marry at the 16th tee box at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, on Marine Base Hawaii, on Sunday. Obama regularly plays there when he's in town, and those scheduling an event there are advised that a presidential visit could disrupt their plans.

Obama called the couple and apologized and said he did not know they had to move, and they thanked him...invited him to the reception...it’s a video online. He declined the reception invitation because it would ruin their reception as well. All was forgiven.

Yesterday a writer in The Atlantic termed the affair a "military defeat". I wanted to come up out of my chair and strangle him. BTT
Whoopty doo. He only apologized because some admin pr hack told him how bad the optics were. He should have never been in the position to have to apologize. I know there are lots of Bush haters here, but could you imagine him doing that? I daresay even Clinton wouldn’t.
Obama’s arrogance seems to have gone up since he lost the mid terms. Something is seriously wrong with someone that doesn’t have a humble bone in his body. It will be a long, hard fall from that perch he has put himself on one of these days.
He da pasha. Everybody else is there for him.
Well it’s too bad he didn’t go. He missed an opportunity to salute them with a beer glass in his hand.

Not to defend him, but I doubt he knew about the wedding. I think the golf time shows the depth of arrogance that exists in his management team. This isn’t the first time people have been shuffled out of the way so Obama could enjoy a game of golf.

JUST letting people know he took time to speak to the couple, and I accidently found it online, when reading something else.
No doubt, but how long will that take?
If I remember correctly he told them (lie?) that he had no idea there was a wedding, it was the Secret Service who moved them....however, the bride said there was a clause in wedding contract that if Obama was playing golf they would have to move, evidently a standard thing in Hawaii.
I really doubt Obama knew about the problem caused with the couple's wedding, until after the fact. He doesn't make his tee-time arrangements.
Someone else made his tee-time arrangements, and THEY had to know about the interference with the couple's wedding. THAT PERSON is to blame here, not Obama.
Obama knows how bad this looked. That's the reason he publicly apologized -- which is rare for him. But, if I were in Obama's place, whoever forced the wedding venue change would be looking for a new job. They should have known better, and they should have considered the fallout.
But, Obama is likely to give the responsible person a pass on this. And that's his problem: there's no accountability, for him or anyone on his staff.
I'm actually inclined to believe that Obama didn't know about the wedding, for exactly the reason you mention. If Obama (or anyone around him) had known about the wedding, the same admin pr flacks would have known how bad the optics would be up front, and never would have allowed the wedding to be moved.
