Obama Adviser Jonathan Gruber In 2009: Obamacare Will NOT Be Affordable [and will deny care]
Daily Caller ^ | December 30, 2014 | Patrick Howley

Posted on 12/30/2014 9:20:25 AM PST by grundle

President Obama’s health care adviser Jonathan Gruber said that the Affordable Care Act would definitely not be affordable while he was writing the bill with the White House.

As Gruber continues to withhold documents while he awaits a call-back for more testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in the new year, more shocking information is coming to light detailing the deceptions that went into the writing of the health-care law.

Gruber said that Obamacare had no cost controls in it and would not be affordable in an October 2009 policy brief, presented here exclusively by TheDC. At the time, Gruber had already personally counseled Obama in the Oval Office and served on Obama’s presidential transition team. Obama, meanwhile, told the American people that their premiums would go down dramatically.

“The problem is it starts to go hand in hand with the mandate; you can’t mandate insurance that’s not affordable. This is going to be a major issue,” Gruber admitted in an October 2, 2009 lecture, the transcript of which comprised the policy brief.

“So what’s different this time? Why are we closer than we’ve ever been before? Because there are no cost controls in these proposals. Because this bill’s about coverage. Which is good! Why should we hold 48 million uninsured people hostage to the fact that we don’t yet know how to control costs in a politically acceptable way? Let’s get the people covered and then let’s do cost control.”

Gruber also said that the only way to control costs is to effectively deny treatment.

“The real substance of cost control is all about a single thing: telling patients they can’t have something they want. It’s about telling patients, ‘That surgery doesn’t do any good, so if you want it you have to pay the full cost.’”

Rather than giving people ‘health care’ this bill gave people expensive (soon to be) worthless insurance.

I wonder how much money the insurance industry kicked into the Obama coffers... Too bad we don’t have a free press - they could of found out.

“Gruber also said that the only way to control costs is to effectively deny treatment.”

This is absolutely true, which is uncharacteristic of Gruber.

In a government controlled system - you must limit access and deny treatment.

In a free-market controlled system - people pay for what they want and the market sets the price - which may be too high for some people.

One way or another, you can’t give everybody everything all the time for free. That’s how it was sold to people, but the reality is much more stark.

my hmo from my employer 2014:
203 for family of 6 - twice per month - 4872 per year

my Obamacare Castrophic Plan 2015 employer w/HSA:
404 for a family of 6 - twice per month - 9696 per year

This is nearly double, what happened was the money was taken to lower the price for singles from families due to the ideal of using discounts to lower your healthcare cost then the rest of the cost is taxes and mandates.

Credits for off-setting the plan cost you might say?
No, Since you have a plan from your employer that meets Obamacare requirements, No Tax Credits.

And I’ll bet your deductibles are substantially higher (since you are probably correctly identifying it as ‘catastrophic’).

From the article, Gruber commenting on Obama's blatant lie about the ACA lowering health care premiums:

“If he could make that speech? Instead, he says ‘I’m going to pass a bill that will lower your health care costs.’ That sells.

Sells with whom? Where are the polls that show majority support for Obamacare anywhere, at any time? How many Republicans, even disgusting, squishy RINO Republicans, voted for this stinkburger?

Obamacare was shoved down our throats and up our asses by a dissembling, corrupt minority who conveniently exempted themselves from its clutches.

No Deductible in network for 2014 but there was a max out of pocket of 2500 per person or 5000 per family.

The new plan has a deductible for in network of 2500, out of network of 5000, and family is 10000 in, and 15000 out of network. Max out of pocket is 15000 also. This was the best plan offered.

This basically means you have to put in at least 5k into an HSA to cover yourself.

Obamacare (healthcare coverage for all) was done badly. It’s always been all about costs.

Gruber said “Let’s get the people covered and then let’s do cost control”. But if the law is only a promise and the money’s not there then people aren’t really covered. That’s going to give socialism a bad name.

Gruber also said that the only way to control costs is to deny treatment.

Today, medical procedures are routinely denied. My heart doctor said he’d do all the tests on me that my insurance would allow. That’s ok with me.

I had a probe stuck up a vein into my heart (no stints needed). They put me into a huge x-ray machine. The sticker price for the use of the machine and its crew for about 20 minutes was $7000.

So, if I caught that correctly, double premiums plus another $5000/yr to get back to where you were?

Where are the CONSERVATIVE voices to question the “bend over and grab your ankles” Republican politicians(Like McCain) who say that Obamacare is “the law” and “here to stay.”? We were all LIED to. Does ANYONE care?

John Roberts(SC) needs to be buried with this information. He will have a chance to gut this monstrosity next year. It needs to happen.

Gruber still predicates things on no taxes ever being repealed, of course. Takes either taxation or borrowing to keep that already-top-heavy government going, and that top-heavy government is the enemy of every industry including medicine.

Roberts is already on the left’s side. Expecting him to deviate from that is like expecting the sun to rise in the west.

In a government controlled system - you must limit access and deny treatment.

There was an article a few days ago about the national healthcare system in the UK being so short of hospital beds that thousands of scheduled operations had to be delayed for several months.

The next cover story(lie) for the Dems will be that, hey, we only said you could get health insurance, not any actual health care.

And the dolts on the left will believe them

>>>Gruber also said that the only way to control costs is to effectively deny treatment.

In Canada this is called “government managed healthcare” while in the US it’s called “death panels”.
