5 Things About Americans' Slipping Sense of Duty

Americans are a little less likely to ask what they can do for their country these days.

An Associated Press-GfK poll found that the sense of duty has slipped since a similar survey three decades earlier. Civic virtues such as staying informed or serving on a jury don't seem as important as they once did ? especially among the younger generation.

The findings fit with research that's been worrying many experts who study civic engagement or advocate for teaching more about civics in school.

"I don't see any recovery," said Rutgers University Professor Cliff Zukin. "The people who were 40 two decades ago aren't as engaged as the people who were 60 two decades ago. This generational slippage tends to continue."

Here are five things to know about Americans' sense of civic duty:

/src on/Isn't diversity and multiculturalism wonderful./src off/I believe the author behind the book "Bowling Alone" has studies that areas with more "diversity" have much lower level of trust and other measures of social capital and cohesion. This slipping of the concept of citizenship is the foreseeable outcome of mass immigration combined with the toxic concept of multiculturalism.

I imagine the “Don’t trust no one over 30” crowd during the 60’s felt the same way about duty.

I try to care as much as I used to. But there are times when I just want to say the heck with it and run away. The ignorance of so many just pisses me off so bad. My kids are no longer in school but I hear stories about the garbage being taught. I’m frustrated by politicians that never do what they promise or even bother to stand up to another bully politician.

Maybe the US would be better off if people started shooting if things don’t get done. A return to the Constitution would be a blessing but some days I fear we have slipped too far into a world of laziness and apathy. But then I get a sudden surge of patriotism now and then. So it’s like an up and down ride. Currently I am in a “down” portion.

Yep, you’re right. It’s hard to have that “all for one, one for all” spirit when you’re being demonized in the media for your white privilege, or labeled as a homofascist for thinking that the traditional heterosexual family doesn’t need to be improved upon, or continuously guilt tripped over every aspect of past American history.

True Americans still have a sense of responsibility for America.

Barack and Moochie Obama, most other democrats, communists, one-worlders, moochers, illegal aliens, race pimps, thugs, gang-bangers, liberal elites and Islamo-Facists do not.

I’ll write what I feel but fully expect to be blown out of the water. That being said, I totally understand why younger people aren’t feeling very civic these days. They have been raised in a school system that has taught them America is bad/evil... all other non white cultures are good. They have been FORCED to accept all others... gays, transys, illegals, etc.. not as equal but “better”. They have been MANDATED to do SSL (in some states. 75 hours of community service in order to graduate.) Many kids perform 300+ in order to look better for college admissions. Forced and mandated “volunteer” hours because THEY will learn it is good to serve the community whether they like it or not.
It all starts young, too. My kids school supplies were taken for the “other” kids that didn’t have them. If a child griped about the confiscation of their sparkly pencils... they were told that this is a contribution to those less fortunate. It’s how it works.. don’t you know.
College admissions? Well, even if you have a high GPA and an outstanding SAT score.. you may not get into that college you want because we have to be diverse. So they get the “you are not accepted” letter while they see a classmate.. a kid who didn’t study hard... get in.
I completely understand why today’s “youth” aren’t as interested in serving America vs youth of yesterday. Perhaps this is differently felt in the flyover states.. but IMHO it is common on the East and West coasts.

We here a Government that wants to give citizenship to millions who steals across the border and wonders why citizenship is not valued as it used to be.

The Government started paying America’s youth to volunteer and is amazed that people don’t volunteer for free as much as they used to.

We have a media that has been caught out and out lying to the public and a president who continuously lies and comparing his views to mythical opposing views; then are dumbfounded when people quit reading the news.

Liberals never study the consequences of their actions. They always study the current state and ponder: How could this possibly happen?

Another cause not listed here - environmentalism.
If you’ve sorted through your trash and paid for over-priced eco-friendly items for the sake of the planet, why do anything for your country?

A real man fights for what he stands for. If he doesn’t, then he really doesn’t stand for anything and he isn’t a real man.

Could it have anything to do with 6 years of ultra Marxist rule? Why do anything when the government will give it to you. 6 years of being told you are incapable of doing anything yourself. 6 years of being told that even if you are a taxpaying citizen that you are nothing compared to the noble illegal freeloading immigrant. Cops are on a war footing while at the same time under leadership that hate them. Why would anyone feel a sense of duty to the Obamanation?
