The current "cold war" has been simmering since the early '90s. What we may be seeing is the American economic juggernaut returning to the fore, as it did under Reagan. This time it's happening in spite of the resident of the White House, not with the support of a visionary President. This time it's due to a fundamental change in fossil fuel technology rather than to the high tech that made Star Wars an insurmountable challenge for the Soviets.
Perhaps, as this cold war ends, our next president will be able to say, "Take off those burkhas".
