I hate to say it, but NO country, ever, has avoided capitalism. The difference is that in communist/socialist countries, the system is set up in such a way as to almost exclusively benefit those at the top.

Capitalism is the saving of surplus production to use to increase production. Free market capitalism is what we usually mean when we use the word alone. Socialism is a form of capitalism as is Mercantilism and any other system beyond purely subsistence production. Socialism is the state control of capital. Mercantilism is state mandated monopoly control of capital. All other systems are variations or mixes of these three. Our major industry is now Oligarchic which is actually Mercantile and small business is being regulated out of existence for the better functioning of that mercantilist system which is being combined with socialist redistribution of wealth.
