Myth 1: The NRA represents gun manufacturers. One of the most pervasive myths about NRA is that it represents firearm manufacturers. It doesnt. It represents firearm owners. Firearm manufacturers are represented by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Yes, manufacturers often contribute money to the Association or raffle/contest prizes to one of its many programs, but NRAat its heartis a non-profit civil rights organization. We also must consider whether we really want Constitutional rights determined via polling. The Bill of Rights protects the individual from the tyranny of the majority. The Second Amendment doesnt say Good poll numbers being essential to good public policy, the right of the people
.
Myth 2: The NRAs power rests in how much money it gives out to candidates. Many gun-control advocates seem to have trouble believing that someone would disagree with them on a subject like gun control and that, if someone does, it must be the result of greed. The truth is that the NRAs power comes not from distributing cash, but from producing votes.
Myth 3: The NRAs influence is grossly disproportionate to its membership numbers. This miscalculation is based on the actual number of paid NRA memberships. It fails to consider the practical realities of non-profit advocacy. Not every family can afford separate memberships for each member of the family. Many households have only one official member, but everyone in the home reads the NRA Official Journal and supports the Association in spirit.
Myth 4: Polls show that most Americans disagree with NRA and want more gun control. The mainstream press often cites polls showing Americans support gun control. Dont believe them. First of all, many of these polls are conducted immediately following highly publicized mass shootings, when people respond emotionally.

If there is one constant in the universe, it's that Totalitarian minded socialist individuals in the national Gun Grabber left will never give up spewing their lies with abandon.
Keep this article in mind when you have to refute their "Talking points" (Lies)
I don't think either of those contentions is entirely accurate. The NRA represents its members, whether those members are firearm owners, manufacturers, both, or neither.
Sorry
I started channeling gun grabber speak..
Ah, yes. The American LEFT. A cabal of “well intentioned “ people who are quite determined to condemn, villify and denigrate LEGAL gun OWNERS.
What I find disgusting is their pathological resistance to going after the ILLEGAL USERS of guns. Why don’t they care and demand action against the “youts” of Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and so many other wonderful cities around the country.
They are so pure and brave acting against those who OBEY the law, but so quick to hide from those who scorn the law.
Isnt it amazing how leftists are totally out of touch with reality?
Facts, physical evidence and eyewitness testimony don’t matter a wit to them
I’m sure those Australian people in Lindt’s were wishing for a chance to hate on the NRA...
Or maybe not....
I like Daily Caller articles, but I hate the website. I shouldn’t have to fight through a dozen popups to view an article.
2nd Amendment bump for later...
Yes, they dont seem to care about what criminals are doing, only what the law-abiding might be doing to resist their tyranny.
Think about it crime and terrorism helps their cause of expanding government and controlling people.
Innocent people armed to resist evil in the world and also resist THEM.
This is a nice article but it would have been a helpful article if the author bothered to research some numbers to support his mythbusting. As it stands these assertions are just statements and they are not going to help us convince anyone to question these myths.
I hear you I use popup blockers and the like as a matter of course. And I find it really annoying when looking at them on mobile basis having to deal with the extra cr
That is a good point Leftists have a tendency to attack anything you tell them even if grounded in the truth.
Many a time they will simply deny such things with bold faced lies, it can be infuriating at times
Popup blocker means never having to say you're sorry for cursing your monitor...
Another NRA myth is that they protect 2nd Amendment rights. In reality the NRA has been responsible for the worst gun control legislation in the last 80 years. NFA, GCA, and 922(o) were supported by the NRA leadership and I’ve never heard them apologize for it.
I wish IPAD would provide one.
I have a boilerplate rebuttal I use in the comments sections of various newspapers when they publish a gun article and the usual anti-NRA types sound off:
“Commenter. X, you and your fellow NRA-bashers can only blame yourselves for the NRA’s strength. Look on the upside though, for you have learned one of Life’s bitter lessons.
I have been a member of the NRA since 1956 and back then they were only interested in promoting marksmanship and gun safety. When the liberals started their anti-gun Jihad in the ‘60s, the upper echelon refused to get involved, saying it was “ungentlemanly” to get involved in that kind of politics.
After a few years of being pounded like a tent peg, the membership installed new blood, and in 1975, the NRA began to respond to those attacks by creating their own lobby and have since become the powerhouse they are today.
People like you remind me of the bloodied school-yard bully who, picking himself off the ground, complained ‘The fight started when he hit back.’”
They never reply.
The NRA needs to start or become a political party - that way we can find out who the true conservatives are. End the GOP disaster and let them (GOP) FORMALLY merge with the Dems.
I love that - hit them back with logic that shuts them up.
