With Republicans threatening to shove climate change to the back seat as they take control of the U.S. Senate, state officials including Gov. Jerry Brown huddled with one of the nation’s leading Democratic donors Monday to talk up ways to keep it on California’s agenda — including legislation that could send a shiver through the coal industry.

The state Senate’s top leader said at an Oakland forum organized by billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer that he’s planning to introduce a measure next year to require the state’s public-employee pension funds to sell their coal-related investments.

CalPERS, the nation’s largest public pension fund with $300 billion in investments

CalPERS is currently carrying a $600 billion unfunded benefit liability. I've heard of talking softly and carrying a big stick but CalPERS is talking loudly and carrying a dead stick.

Liberals want to destroy blue collar high paying jobs to appease their radical environmentalist wacko friends.

They must have missed the news in California last month that climate change was at the bottom of voters’ priorities. At the top of the list was the economy and jobs.

No wonder the working class is abandoning the Democratic Party in droves. They still don’t get it.

They want to eliminate that white privilege of working in a Kentucky coal mine.

Good.

Let Mexifornia invest their silly fake money in such successes as Dorkbama’s solar electric companies.

The sooner that Mexifornia fails, the better. We can then invade (after the BIG ONE, of course, clean the place out and get it back to the prime real estate it used to be.

Ya, there’s white privilege for you. The privilege to go do hard dangerous physically demanding work in a coal mine is due to white privilege. I’m sure the liberals on the upper west side believe this!!

Bankrupt and deprive people of heating for a fight against a paper tiger. Children and old people will die for this fantasy.

Not a single watt of electricity generated from coal should be allowed into this happy state...

Invest in coal to fight global cooling. The ice age comes.

My thinking exactly. If they don’t want the pension funds invested in something that might make a little, then they surely want them dropped down a rathole. Only logical.
