The place I work has been playing Christmas music, and every time the 12 Days of Christmas comes on, I think of Bob and Doug.
The rum ration was an old Anglosphere naval tradition. Over time, the navies of the U.S., the UK, Canada and New Zealand (in 1990!) abolished it. However, the rum ration is one thing, allowing sailors to drink onbaard is another. Not to mention having “beer vending machines” (see the linked article).
