Obama: Pro, college football a 'little bit of an old boys' network' (ESPN radio interview)

President Obama said Friday that professional and college football have been “a little bit of an old boys’ network” but that he thinks sports franchises are now establishing clear policies to address the off-the-field behavior of their athletes.

“This is not unique to the NFL,” Obama said in an ESPN radio interview. “There have been some blind spots that are rooted not just in pro football but back into college football.... Certain behaviors have been tolerated.”

(snip)

Asked whether NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had “too many men” around him as he was handling the matter, Obama made an argument for all leaders – including presidents – to promote women and have people of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds on their staffs.

He just does not care does he, he’s the kind of guy who will tell a crowd of people the sky is green and won’t care one iota what they think. Reminds me of that speech he gave on ScAmensty where he said illegal immigration is the lowest it’s been since 1970. This after the entire country watched illegals come in by the trainload all summer and be flown wherever they wanted to go. This after border agents saying they were completely overwhelmed, he had the audacity and arrogance to claim and on national TV no less, that illegal immigration is the lowest it’s been in 44 years. This guy is the very definition of a pathological liar and another clear cut sign that he is mentally ill and unfit for office.

I thought ESPN didn’t want to be political? Go to their sister site Grantland if you want to gag.

This guy isn’t just the stupidest president on record. He’s not satisfied with just winning that title. This is a world class schmuck!

You beat me to it. WTF. This is how he spends his time. He gets up in the morning and goes the gym. The next thing on his schedule is lunch. After that he makes a campaign style appearance in front of the cameras. After that it is time for ESPN, partying with celebrities, etc. He is a lazy, shiftless you know what!

The NBA lacks diversity. Obama and Holder need to address racial disparity on NBA rosters.

He’s right, not too hard, it was obvious. However, he is leading everyone into a catch 22. You see if we started holding athletes accountable for their actions, who do you think will be caught in this net, you got it, someone who might look like Obama’s son. So, does everyone see the dilemma. On the one hand he is saying, lets hold these athletes to the standards of everyone else, but if you do hold them accountable, you instantly will become a racist.

This is all we need, a pussy telling football players how they should act.

Whether he’s right or wrong, coming from the President it carries massive weight. This isn’t said without a strategy behind it. You’ll see a movement for a percentage of management at the NFL to reflect the percentage of black players, some sort of new government “fee” or tax, a stronger players union and who knows what else. Eventually, they’ll ruin the game.

Remind me, which professional athlete boasted far and wide about the number of women that he had bedded? Of course we all know how our President would react if a similar 'icon' were to do the deed to one of his daughters, after all he would not want them 'burdened!'

Ha! Reminds me of the ‘All In The Family’ episode where Archie and Jefferson got into a back and forth ‘boy’ thing!

Black players have benefited immensely from the “old boys network”; Lawrence Taylor of the Giants would have had a very different (probably much shorter) career today...

Old boys network is a codeword for old white boys network. So I have been told by a black friend.
