As Frustrations Surface, Lawmakers Scramble to Pass Spending Bill (Prepping for Short Term Spending)

WASHINGTON — The 113th Congress — one of the least productive on record — found itself scrambling Thursday to pass a $1 trillion spending bill amid last-minute brinkmanship and bickering that has come to mark one of the capital’s most polarized eras.

A vote on the House legislation could take place as early as Thursday afternoon. But while Republican leaders predicted passage, frustrations emerged over policy additions to the 1,600-page bill, with House Democrats objecting to a provision that rolls back an aspect of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, which regulates Wall Street, and another party fund-raising provision that would give big donors more influence over political parties.

Lawmakers were also preparing a safety, short-term spending measure that would fund the government only into early next year, at which point Republicans — who will then control both chambers of Congress — would be able to renegotiate the spending legislation on more favorable terms.

“We expect the bill to pass with bipartisan support today, but if it does not, we will pass a short-term C.R. to avoid a government shutdown,” Michael Steel, a spokesman for Speaker John A. Boehner, said, referring to a continuing resolution. “The length and other details of that bill have not been determined.”

The 113th Congress — one of the least productive on record

I don't want Congress to be productive. Be less "productive," meet part time once every few years, get paid $10k/year or better yet, nothing, and leave me alone. That's what I want.

I feel the same way. I cheer about anything that doesn't pass. Aside from the Immigration Reform bill, I thought Harry Reid did a good job of throwing wrenches in the Senate gears.

This sounds like a scare tactic. Trying to scare liberal Dems into staying onboard, that is. Otherwise, it would have been the right thing to do from the beginning, and should have been the only game in town.

The New Times should check the 350 or so House bills that Reid stuffed in his waste basket.

I am wishing Republican leadership actually has a pair and they are trying to put all this on the rats while punting to January.

I said it was a wish.

The New York Times writer is reporting “least productive” from their liberal perspective.

I'm actually more furious about the fact that the bill will give up 6 months of spending than about the Immigration.
Obama will still find an illegal way to get it done. We should be playing hardball and not giving away half a years worth of spending. Then in 70 days, attach a rider that no
money shall go towards illegal immigrant Social Security or Green Cards.
The Democrats may defeat it. We need it killed and a short CR until next year!

Update: Spending bill postponed until later today because the Weeper and his henchmen aren’t sure they have enough support to pass it.

They are looking to Steney Hoyer and his RAT party to help. But Hoyer says they are not whipping their members one way or another.

The Rats problably enjoy watching the Weeper look like a fool.

At Drudge. It shows a photo of Boehner with 2 democrats. reid and obama. Boehner has not enough support to undermine the country so he is turning to the democrats for help....!

They will give him the help but it will come with a price. More amnesty for 10’s of millions of illegals.

Sad to say, but the times I feel safest is when Congress is in recess. I’d be totally fine with reverse-reward system for our congresscritters — the fewer days they meet, the more the get paid.
