in the hope of “domesticating” long-standing enemies such as Russia and Iran.
Good luck with that.

“...in the hope of “domesticating” long-standing enemies such as Russia and Iran.”

Might as well wish for the UN to disband on its own. Or North Korea to become a true Republic. Or Nancy Pelosi to become pro-life.

"Cruz contrasted Reagan’s approach with the Obama-Clinton policy of not putting distance between the U.S. and traditional allies, such as Britain and Israel, in the hope of “domesticating” long-standing enemies such as Russia and Iran"

It's one of the tragedies of obama, for having been given the opportunity to acquire one of the best educations other people's money could buy, he didn't assimilate anything from the painful lessons learned by real American citizen patriots that came before him.

Reagan foreign policy was based on facing down the existential threat of the USSR.

Since the US faces nothing similar, it is IMO a little silly to talk about returning to Reagan’s foreign policy.

I’m sure Reagan himself would be the first to agree that different challenges require different policies.

The essence of Reagan’s foreign policy has been summed up as “peace through strength”. If this were adopted by a future administration, it would indeed represent a “return”.

This president of the future may have a weapon at his disposal that Reagan didn’t have, to accomplish this goal—oil.

Ted Cruz 2016 - He might not be Reagan, but he’ll be as good as him.
