House to vote on short-term funding bill
The Hill ^

Posted on 12/09/2014 1:19:50 PM PST by Windy City Conservative

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member on the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the negotiations on the spending measure could “drag on” beyond Tuesday.

He said he hoped to go home Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

“I don't think I'm going home Thursday night, but that would be nice,” he said.

The short-term continuing resolution, or CR, could fund the government for two or three days, keeping the lights on past the Thursday deadline when funding is slated to run out.

That should give Congress enough time to pass a larger government-funding package that would fund most of the government through the end of the fiscal year in September 2015.

The House could vote as early as Thursday on the larger $1 trillion package. The Senate could vote either the same day or during the weekend depending on if any senators object to quick passage.

The larger package has yet to be released, but aides have said it could come out on Tuesday.

So, Boehner and Co., were supposed to release their CRomnibus yesterday, but now they still haven't released it so they will pass a 2 or 3 day CR, so they can wait under to the weekend to cram it down our throats, while no one is paying attention. They do this time and time again. Our government basically runs on politicians fooling stupid voters; voters who are even more stupid than Jonathan Gruber could ever describe.

Look at Sen. Shelby in this article, wanting to go home Thursday night for Christmas. This guy is a Republican. School children are stuck in school closer to Christmas and this guy hopes to go home on Dec. 11. These guys are the worst.

The CR should fund the Govt. only until Jan. 31 when the new Congress would have a chance to weigh in.

Agree...and should go something like this....

...pass a short-term Continuing Resolution rather than a long term omnibus, and include language blocking funding for Obamas amnesty in it. If outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid can muster the votes to strip that language from the bill, or if Obama vetoes it after Reid fails to garner the votes, then the conservatives want the House to pass a short term CR until the new Republican congress, with GOP reinforcements, is sworn in in January. At that point, they’ll target Obamas amnesty funding before he can get the program off the ground...”

The new Congress would have less than a month to figure out funding for the whole government. With incoming expanded staffs on the GOP side to run the Senate committees.

Split the CRs. One through the end of FY15 for most of the government. Another through mid/late February for DHS to allow the incoming GOP Senate to play it’s role in fighting amnesty.

That's not my understanding:

Personally, I would prefer they be constitutionally bound to start no earlier than Jan 15 and end no later than May 31.

The newest government land grab should definitely be cut out of this bill. We don’t need D.C. to own more than the 33% of the land that they do now.

Nope. Defund amnesty. Defund Obolacare. Period. Or, shut it down. It's that easy.

I’m saying that they should not pass the long term CR right now. A short term one should suffice until the new Congress shows up.

Everyone knows the budget so there is no surprise here. Fund the government through January 31. On Feb 1, submit a budget that has a 15% reduction to every department except the military and no funding for any amnesty program that doesn’t start with “the borders will be sealed” before further funding is authorized.

Also, any bill for Amnesty or Obamacare is to be broken down and addressed as many separate bills. Let Obama and the Dems veto bills that are two pages long and are on the congressional web site.

BS. The CR is already written and only tweaks will be needed to carry it through January.

You really want THIS democrat senate to set the spending for the next fiscal year.

You are getting what is called 'pushback' on that.

Exactly, Jane. I think, if this fight doesn’t end well for Conservatives (leadership ramming through a LONG TERM Omnibus), we conservatives need to find a way to take out the leaders, politically.

awe, poor little baby! Boo Hoo!

“I don’t think I’m going home Thursday night, but that would be nice,” he said.

My husband is retiring this year and today he is working 14 hours, not including one hour drive to work and one hour home! In the dark both ways! Dec 11? No one gets off for the year by that early a date! Sheesh! such sissies!
