The guy was not German. He was a Turk living in Germany. And it's legal to burglarize people's garages in Turkey, right?

Yeah, generally speaking, even in New York for the love of God, if you enter somebody’s home, you can be shot. Period. Done. Does Montana have some kind of bizarre “garage exception”?

Shooting burglars is a game too and there is no second place.

I forget the details of this, but if I recall even some Freepers said this shooter is guilty of murder. I recall thinking that was crap, but I dont remember these allegedly extreme circumstances that led some to think the shooter is guilty. It depends on state law, but breaking and entering doesn't always equate to a deadly threat which would allow for use of lethal force in self-defense.
Back in the '90s, something like this happened in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. An LSU foreign exchange student (Japanese) who badly misunderstood the Halloween "Trick or Treat" traditions walked into someone's open garage and scared the crap out of a woman, who screamed. Her husband came running and shot the kid. The shooter believed he was protecting his wife and home, but he was convicted of manslaughter (IIRC).

“”A teen who was with a German exchange student the night he was fatally shot in a Montana garage testified at the homeowners murder trial “”
I wonder how much thought the writer gave to that phrasing...
To: Olog-hai
Well if he didn't know he could get shot for burglary, then by all means let's have street protests against the homeowner who shot the burglar. (/sarcasm)

...testified at the homeowners murder trial...

LSU foreign exchange student (Japanese) [was shot] The shooter believed he was protecting his wife and home, but he was convicted of manslaughter (IIRC). The shooter was acquitted of manslaughter. He was found liable for wrongful death by a civil jury, and the deceased student's Japanese family used some of the money to lobby for disarming American citizens.

Originally, they suspected it was the perp’s brother Yessin Dede

Our home owner is a Laotian born American Citizen who had been burgled 2 or more times previous to this event. He is accused of luring this Turk/German into his garage by leaving the door open and placing a purse where it could be seen, then monitoring the garage with a bably monitor.
Both the Turk and the other kid with the Italian name were, in my opinion, scouting for a burglary. The turk chose to do the deed and paid the price. The home owner should receive an award and not a trial. In Germany, a home owner might really hurt you for intruding. A cop will kill you for not stopping on command.

I don;t think anyone said Markus Kaarma is not German, although he may not be since he is the homeowner. At any rate, he’s probably of German descent.
The “teen” who was shot was a Turk living in Germany who appears to have come to the U.S. as an exchange-burglar.

The German Gov’t should be outraged that a Turkish Thief would be attempting to steal from someone named Markus....
