The 2005 act made it a crime to even lie about having served & was struck down on 1st Amendment grounds.
The 2013 law makes it illegal to personally profit from falsely claiming to have served. This jerk was trying to score military discounts but the real criminals are phony vets receiving VA benefits (which the VA doesn’t police well if at all). DD 214s are not difficult to counterfeit.
