I thought he died of a heart attack brought on by his asthma and morbid obesity... And what will three days of training for 22,000 people cost? And does he really want us to believe that the child of the most powerful mayor in the USA is in danger?

Can't blame the sergeant who was right there supervising the arrest.

That would be racist.

Eric Garner died as a result of neck compression from a chokehold that is banned by the New York City Police Department.... According to Reuters, a departmental investigation will most likely focus on whether Pantaleo indeed employed a chokehold that is banned by New York Police Department.

Why would the NYPD need to investigate. Roberto Ontiveros of the Latin Post has already determined that it was a "banned chokehold".

What is really needed is a training program for big city democratic mayors. Start with learning the Constitution, then move on to free market capitalism and the dangers of enabling a socialist welfare state.

I think DeBlasio has a motive here that hasn't been discussed:

By rushing to judgment in the case and making his own determination that the police need to be retrained, he's effectively stating that the police did something wrong in the Garner situation. This makes it much easier for Garner's family to prove their case in their $75 million civil lawsuit against the City of New York.

That was not a choke hold, that was a head lock.

He didn’t die of “neck compression,” and it wasn’t a “chokehold,” which is an actual hold. The cop wrapped his arm around Garner’s neck to drag him off of the other cop Garner was attempting to strike, and then let him go; the coroner found slight superficial bruising at the area, but nothing that could have caused death or even injury. Garner was big and combative, but he had health problems, which of course only he would have known about at the time that he resisted arrest.

Btw, he had a long history of selling contraband (the other word for “tax free,” because the reason there’s no tax on them is that the goods are either stolen or smuggled by the mafia or various terrorist groups). He had been arrested over 20 times, without any effect on his behavior, so if they really wanted to save his life, they should have made his punishment more severe.

I think DeBlahsio should retrain the entire force for the better part of a year. This would necessitate an immediate tax increase on all who live in NYC, of course.
