LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A divided Arkansas medical panel has voted to require doctors to perform an ultrasound test on a patient before an abortion.

The Arkansas State Medical Board voted 7-6 Thursday to implement parts of a state law, which also requires doctors to tell a woman the likelihood of a fetus surviving if carried to term, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1tYsSnT ) reported.

The board initially rejected the regulation, 6-7, but one member asked for a second vote, saying he wanted to switch his vote to a "yes." He had wanted the board to approve the regulation "under protest," but its chairman said they could only vote to approve or reject it.

I won't ask why they were not giving the women one before the abortion before this. Chuck it up to laziness.

If people exercising their actual written right to keep arms have to go through a background check, then these people exercising their made up right to kill an unborn child should have no problem seeing an image of that person before they murder them.

What are they afraid of? It’s only a clump of tissue, right?

I know why the industry fights this, it makes it obvious what abortion is: murder. What I can’t understand is why regulatory boards, mal practice insurers, etc. don’t require it. Every other invasive procedure requires many images and documentation. My husband had knee surgery a few years ago and had several MRI’s to be sure they knew what exactly was needed. I recently had a D&C as our baby died in utero and I was far enough along that to keep waiting (he had been deceased for about 3 weeks before we learned that he was no longer living) and I had tons of images taken both at the clinic and again at the hospital.

To not require the ultrasounds is an accommodation to hide evil as going in blind could jeopardize the mother’s health...the very thing they all claim to hold most dear.

Way to go Arkansas, if only every other state would follow suit.
