Smith has always had a hard time in the long gun business.

well if they started making AK’s or magazine fed .45-70’s maybe I’d bite.

MForgeries are a dime a dozen these days—and boring.

They make a very nice AR but there’s a lot of competition in that niche and it’s been growing of late.

Smith and Wesson makes great REVOLVERS. World-class.

But that’s it.

S&W rifles? Not the first mfg I think of for long arms.

If they’d bring out a good solid bolt-action or even a single-shot I might be interested. I don’t have an AR, and am really not interested in getting one.

Now if they made a mil-spec AK I would definitely get one.

I used to like building models as a kid. So I began purchasing pieces and built an AR myself. With the help of parts from Wilson, Daniel Defense, Noveske, Magpul, and some stuff from the gun shows, I did it. Since the boating accident, I want to do another.

I have been watching my local Wal-Mart's supply of .22LR rimfire ammo. In my opinion, this is a bellweather item to watch from a supply/demand/price aspect, and I am still rarely seeing this ammo in stock.

My buddy in the sporting goods department tells me that they rarely get it in, and it's usually a small quantity that rarely lasts 2 days on the shelf.

My guess is that we won't see a decent supply until we have a wall-to-wall conservative Administration in place.

When Wal-Mart does have it, the limit is 3 boxes @$2.84/box for Remington Thunderbolt.

No one is reporting on inflation. Do they realize all our money is going to buy toilet paper and milk?

I bought two Smith & Wesson rifles a few months ago, the 5.56mm MP-15 AR rifle and its .22 lookalike, the MP-15/22. The latter is enormous fun - even my wife enjoys it. I’m informed that Smith & Wesson’s revolvers are pretty lousy these days.

Massive price reductions on the way, and not only for S&W rifles? One can hope!

I think this is more of a problem with their distribution channels than anything else. Add in the lack of aggressive pricing, a lack of trying to differentiate themselves in the market - this doesn’t surprise me at all. I know that quite a few of their long gun distributors have closed shop in the last decade, and their point of sales through chains have pretty much ended.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a Smith & Wesson rifle at Big 5 - plenty of watches, gun cases, and even revolvers, but haven’t seen one of their long guns there in a long time.

I think there’s a place for them in the market, but it might be time for Smith & Wesson to look at that division and perhaps make some significant sales changes and actually seek out sales rather than thinking that people are just going to come to them.

1. Everyone already has a battle rifle, or 2, or 3, or...
2. Bampster has been stymied, so now people can start spending their money on other things.

I see it in the collectible firearm auctions. When Bampster was elected the money moved from collectibles to black guns. I got some great bargains. Now the collectibles have gone back up.

I bought a S&W AR years ago. It’s a good gun. A friend of mine bought one last year. It has no forward assist and no dust cover, but it shoots OK.

My first firearm purchase was a S&W 4015 Colorado state patrol over production handgun. It had an emblem engraved on it. it looked great. Problem was it wouldn’t shoot. Stove pipe and misfired. Sent it back to the shop and no improvement. I emailed the then pres. (This was when it was owned by walther i think) He sent the sales rep to the shop where i bought it and offered me the gun of my choice. I got a SW99 with trijicon sights as a replacement. $400 dollar purchase and got a $600 replacement. I appreciated the service but i haven’t bought a S&W since. I do Beretta, Steyr, taurus, and browning.
