It all sounds good but it is only as good as the best programmer working on it...and that isn’t all that good these days.

There are some statements in there that sound like a used-car salesman made them.

LRASM-B was cancelled in 2012 under tightening defense budgets, with DARPA focusing on the lower risk and more pressing LRASM-A concept. $18 TRILLION of debt, 70% of which Hussein ran up, and we still had to cancel a critical system like LRASM-B because of budget cuts. The Chinese are developing hypersonic ship-killers apace.

Any volume left for a warhead? Warhead is usually an afterthought.

The Russians already have anti ship missiles that can prosecute a cooperative attack via networking between missiles, these being the SS-N-12 Sandbox and the SS-N-19 Shipwreck. While not stealthy, they are much faster, a 300nm range, and a 1000kg warhead. The latest version of the AS-4 Kitchen may have the same as well.

The other was the LRASM-B, a high-altitude supersonic, ramjet powered anti-ship missile, similar to the Russian Brahmos supersonic anti-ship missile. LRASM-B was cancelled in 2012 under tightening defense budgets, with DARPA focusing on the lower risk and more pressing LRASM-A concept. How could "real fricking fast and not overly bright" be higher risk than this beauty that plans its own attack?

Thanks for posting. Nearly a decade ago I worked on ultra high bandwidth line-of-sight optical links for systems like these. Looks like they made it to production.

I’d rather use the Optical / Radar Guided Anti-Ship Missile.
And any bets on how soon it takes for those puppies to become self-aware?

I like it. Sounds expensive though and not too keen on all the emissions like talking to the other missiles. Harpoon was a great weapon for most of my life and I hope we will use up the inventory on pirates.

How would you like to bet that the B model is already in the inventory?
