Point taken about Obama’s pen & phone, but Stalin & other Soviet bigwigs had lots of telephones; the number of phones on one’s desk indicated one’s power & prestige.
There were secure phones to Soviet missile command, Ve-Che phones, Vertushkas (the USSR’s first dial telephones), direct lines to regional Party chiefs, etc.
An American who saw Khrushchev’s desk said the phones gathered on it reminded him of a herd of elephants.
Anyway, communists are like crabgrass. They’ll infest our society for decades to come.
