Will the US give the Dutch their gold back?
CNBC ^ | 28 Nov 2014 | Matt Clinch

As the Dutch central bank looks to repatriate some of its gold reserves back from the New York Federal Reserve, Dennis Gartman, the editor and publisher of The Gartman Letter, has questioned what reputational damage this could cause for the U.S.

The Dutch central bank last week confirmed that it was shipping gold from the U.S. to the Netherlands to "spread its gold stock in a more balanced way", adding that it would have a "positive effect on public confidence".

It comes after the Germans made a similar move in 2013, indicating that it would transfer 300 tons from New York by 2020. The Bundesbank has surprised many in the industry, however, by only moving 5 tons last year in what it called a "run-up phase of gold repatriation".

...

The Dutch central bank is set to cut the amount of its stock held in New York from 51 percent to 31 percent, but keep its reserves in London and Canada unchanged

Is the gold still there,or has the government “diverted”it elsewhere.

Considering the gold is not physically there anymore, it will be hard to hand it back.

When there’s something to know, the Dutch government will be the absolute last people on earth to know it.

Interesting comment about the Germans only getting 5 tons back of 300 tons requested, and it wasn't the original gold they stored in the U.S., but newly refined gold. Probably "diverted".

It’s a good thing that Hillary and Obama overthrew the government of Libya and got access to Qadaffi’s gold. I’ll bet they put all of it in Fort Knox.

If Germany said “Get our gold here within a month or we go public claiming you no longer have it”

Something BIG would happen....IMO

We originally told the Germans that it would take 7 years to return their gold. We also denied them the ability to perform an audit of their own gold held in our banks.

Translation: We didn’t have their gold. I’m guessing we sold it to someone else and then got caught short when the Germans asked for it. German intelligence probably sniffed out the sale and the Germans called us on it.

I bet the Fed is really pressuring Mike’s Gold Buyers to get the grandchildren to sell grandma’s gold rings and jewelery to come up with that extra gold.

I’m guessing we could probably get half the gold they requested from Al Sharptons teeth.

I wonder how much of it could be gold stolen during the war, laundered one way or another?

No, this is gold that foreign countries sent to Germany post-World War 2 to pay for imports of German goods. During the cold war, Germany sent most of this gold to the United States for safekeeping from potential invading Soviets.

The fact that a sovereign country such as Germany is incapable of having the Gold returned is NOT a good sign.
