Amazon.com is following a military model to conquer cyber-space this holiday shopping season. The company has hired 80,000 seasonal workers and deployed 1,500 Kiva logistic robots for each of its 10 warehouses across the United States. \ The military math per warehouse works out to 2 brigades of workers being supported by 2 battalions of robots. Across the entire company, the 80,000 seasonal workers and 15,000 robots equal a Field Army of soldiers supported by a mechanized Division.
Amazon bought Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012 to gain control of its robotics technology. Each of Amazons robots weighs 320 pounds and is painted orange for safety. The bots may help Amazon avoid the mishaps of last year's holiday season, when a surge of packages overwhelmed Amazons shipping partner UPS and delayed the arrival of Christmas presents around the globe.
Amazon received horrible press coverage and was forced to apologize and offer shipping refunds and $20 gift cards to compensate customer disappointment.
General Omar Bradley in World War II famously said: Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics. Amazon as a good student of history has definitely studied logistics, and will be playing to win during this Thanksgiving to Christmas season.

It’s not helping.. last 3 orders from Amazon prime have been late...
Remember, if they miss their delivery date for any reason and you are a prime member (and used the 2 day shipping) you can ask for a free month of prime.. They do NOT just give it to you.
HA HA
It’s amazing!
STFU.
You got something against capitalism?
Amazing!
I just placed an order with them tonight and got suckered into paying an additional five bucks shipping to get the item delivered by this coming Friday. The item came with “free shipping” which according to Amazon’s definition only means the item will be delivered in 5 to 8 business days. Used to be with the “free shipping” option the item would show up on my doorstep in two days. Without any extra charges. They also charged me state sales tax because now they have a freaking warehouse outside of Lakeland, Florida. Lakeland is 50 miles away from me so I guess it was a dumb move for me to agree to pay the extra shipping charge. Hard to believe those little robots weigh 320 pounds each. But looks like they are doing the job. Pretty amazing. Pick pack and ship an order in fifteen minutes. Holy cow. When you think of it being done thousands of times a minute.
Not really ;) but it does extend the prime video and music.. something we really use the snot out of.
Yeah, everything is fun and games, and increased efficiency.....
Until the dang things become self-aware and decide that the Amazon customers are a threat to their system.
So when are they going to start using drones for delivery?
Everything I’ve ordered has been delivered in two days. Comes from Reno or Phoenix. No sales tax yet.
In my experience, they’ve always been, not fast, but very fast. And I don’t have that premium plan.
Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
I work with these...that’s all I can say
These are the old style kiva bots...basically rumba robots on steroids...LOL
“I, Robot”
I did a book report as a kid on it.
My teacher docked my grade because she thought I flubbed the title.
I had to go down to the library and check the book back out again to show it to her.
Not a good thing to go through as a third grader.
Thinking back on it. That pissed me off.
