10th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot - Planning Thread
11/30/2014 | TheMom

Posted on 11/30/2014 8:17:12 PM PST by TheMom

Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot was born.

2015 will mark the 10th Annual Memorial Shoot! I could not be more proud of how this event has blossomed throughout the years. The following phrase has been spoken at every shoot, except the first one, “This is the best shoot we’ve had!”.

Get ready to speak those words again . . .

The 10th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 6th, 2015 at Schwenke’s Rifle Range in Aransas Pass. This is a private range, but I was once again able to sweet talk Mr. Schwenke to let us use his range (OK – maybe it wasn’t so much the sweet talk as it was he saw how much extra money he could make for the day). The cost is $15.00/adult. We have the 25 yard range reserved for us, but will be allowed to use the other ranges ~ as long as we “blend in” and are respectful to the members. The shoot will start at 10:00 am. I’ll have waivers for everyone to sign, and will collect your fee with the waivers to turn in all at one time. This year we will not meet as a group for breakfast before heading to the range.

If cpdiii is able to make it to the shoot he will provide lunch, otherwise we will have BBQ catered in (which will cost about $8.00/person ~ haven’t priced that yet).

I have reserved a block of 15 cottages at Pelican Bay Resorts ~ http://www.pelicanbayresort.com/ ~ for June 4th – 6th. To reserve a cottage call (Toll Free) 866-729-7177 or 361-729-7177, let them know you are with the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot group. Our group will receive a discount on the price quoted on their website. The club house rents for $150.00 for four hours, I reserved Friday and Saturday nights ~ I can’t remember the start times, but we have to be out of there by 10:00 pm both nights. The lady I spoke with said we could probably use the club house for free, depending on how many cottages we actually rent.

For those arriving Thursday night dinner will be at Captain Benny’s ~ this is subject to change. The Friday night dinner is yet to be determined. Saturday night will be easy stuff ~ appetizers and chips & dip type stuff. There are a few months yet to figure all that out.

Everyone get your vacation requests in early. Really look forward to seeing everyone in June!

And KC, CC has a beautiful skyline with buildings a lot taller than one would expect for a city that's not well known outside of Texas. And having watched the game at Arrowhead where it was around 20 degrees, let me assure you it's a tad warmer in Corpus. It's also windy and warm in March, hence a kite flying event is held there.

You could come through FT. Worth and caravan with us and miss Houston. :)

(I am assuming that would be the plan!)

If cpdiii is able to make it to the shoot he will provide lunch

The hell with work. I will be there. The question is does the Texas Cowboy Gang want Brisket and Chicken, Shrimp Creole and Chicken on the side or my Seafood Gumbo with chicken on the side. About a month before the shoot we need a vote on the menu.

Question for the Mom. The El Roy Gang has a tendency to eat a late breakfast and then go to the shoot. Would it be better if I cook for the evening meal at the cabins or at the shoot. It is the same to me either way. At the shoot two years ago I was a bit embarrassed as we ran out of brisket and thus this year I also cooked extra and also brought chicken. This year we had excess and my dog was very appreciative of this. Thus the question is do I cook at the shoot are for the evening meal.

I am retired now but do work every other weekend to make a little change for important things like flying my glider, trips, firearms, and the Texas Cowboy Shoot. If they want me to work that weekend I will call in "dead" and tell them Monday it was a miracle and show up for work the next weekend.

I really enjoyed staying with the Texas Cowboy Gang at the last shoot. It is like being with family but nobody gets pissed off at each other. These times are special and it was great to meet Fling Wing Flyer and his family and to sit down and have adult beverages with the gang, even Humble /S. We love you Humble :)

As OIL FIELD TRASH I had a particular like for El Roy. When I first meet him at one of his shoots, it was instant rapport. We had been to many of the same places around the world but not at the same time. "If you "aint" OIL FIELD TRASH" you will not understand.

El Roy is special. Our shoots are a time for like minded spirits to get together and have fun in the name of EL Roy, he would like that.

Looking forward to seeing the Gang Again. We are different and that is good!

I pray I can, June is very busy for us up here

You and me both. June is one of the busiest months of the year for the home improvement industry (which is my business).

This one will be a toughie for me and Libertybel, but we'll be there.

Thanks for the ping, Mom!

I’ll be checking in on the thread from time to time, now that I’ve got it bookmarked.

The venue looks stunning. Libertybel and I have been wanting to get down to South Texas since we moved here ten years ago, and now’s our chance. Thankfully, we’ve got a full seven months to make it happen.

Correction.

My reference to “Fling Wing Flyer” should be to “windflyer”

Senility really sucks
