One person was killed in Cairo on Saturday night, in clashes that erupted after an Egyptian court dismissed a murder charge against former President Hosni Mubarak over the deaths of protesters during the 2011 uprising.

The ruling enraged Mubarak’s opponents, with about 1,000 converging on a central Cairo square to denounce the government, according to the AFP news agency.

A health ministry official said one person was shot dead after police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters, resulting in scattered clashes. Police arrested at least 100 protesters.

Seven of Mubarak's security commanders, including former interior minister Habib al-Adly, had also been acquitted on Saturday over the deaths of some of the roughly 800 people killed during the revolt.

Cheers erupted in court and Mubarak's sons Alaa and Gamal kissed his forehead when the judge read the verdict in the retrial as the ex-president, 86, lay in an upright stretcher inside the caged dock.

Corruption charges against the sons were also dropped.

Mubarak and al-Adly were sentenced to life in prison in June of 2012 for failing to prevent the deaths of over 800 protesters during the 18-day uprising that began on January 25, 2011. Mubarak ruled Egypt for almost 30 years before being ousted in the uprising.

The court later accepted Mubarak’s appeal and ordered a retrial, but the former President remained behind bars because other corruption charges were filed against him.

Good for Mubarak.

It was stupid to angle for his ouster.

All in all, a pretty calm day in Cairo.

One would have thought emotions may have run a little higher than that, given the Muslim Brotherhood is not known for reasonable discourse.

Probably because most wish that Mubarak was never removed from power.

You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.

Hey - Ferguson protesters can go over there and riot. Pay them all to go and don’t let them back in the country!

Didn’t stop Obama from letting the MB in the front door of the White House while Bibi was hustled in the side door.

It’s amazing how much more serious and dedicated to their cause protestors can look if they’re not carrying giant TVs out of looted stores.

The MB in Egypt has the iron boot of the military, with the backing of The People, on it's neck, thank God.

I think the massive demonstrations that destroyed the brotherhood in Egypt ultimately led to the fall of the wall of Fagbammy.

EXCELLENT for Egypt. They saw the FACE OF EVIL and stood it down. We’re just getting there now, with 75-90% of the white vote in the South going Republican.
