California motorists to begin shouldering costs of carbon auction
Sacramento Bee ^ | 11/28/2014 | Dale Kasler

Motorists are about to get drafted into California’s war on climate change.

Starting Jan. 1, gas and diesel fuel will be subject to California’s cap-and-trade market, a 2-year-old regulatory mechanism that puts a price on carbon spewed into the atmosphere.

The result will be higher gasoline and diesel prices, and probably more controversy for a state program that’s already been attacked in the courts by the business community.

What the article ignores is that this is going to affect more than just "motorists". Everything that involves fuel is going to be affected. The farmer using diesel in his tractors, the trucker hauling loads to wherever, the power plan generating electricity, all will be burdened with higher fuel costs. All of which will be transferred to the consumer.

Glad I don’t live in California. Of course, this nonsense will probably spread to other states eventually.

Any idea how many vehicles the Los Angeles Police Department has on the road? That is going to blow a huge hole in their budget!

We’ll feel it in rising costs of things produced in California.

Its a shakedown scam. It doesn’t reduce “climate change” pollutants - it simply allows businesses to continue emitting noxious gasses in exchange for paying the government a fee to do it.

Its not a free market all. Liberals dreamed it up as a hidden tax to collect more government revenue. The scam has nothing whatsoever to do with protecting the environment.

But that’s Californistan.

The regime had a clear path to pass national “Cap & Tax” in 2009/2010, but spent all their time on Obamacare.

Even Chuck Schumer is sad....

Climate change was a scam from the beginning. Liberals never took it all that seriously but it fit in with their desire to squeeze the golden goose in a new way. Its not about C02 or this or that environmental disturbance they are concerned with.

Its feeding the beast and running our lives.

I’m guessing the government entities are exempt from this.

Yup.

The Democratic Congress was set to impose one if it wasn’t for Obamacare.

Its one of those bad ideas that like a hungry vampire, just keeps coming back.

From the climate cap market? Who do you think runs it?

Its like Obamacare and its not a free market at all. Its just another cost of doing business for every one.

And it doesn’t do one damn thing to address climate change. But then Obamacare was never meant to address health care affordability.

Its all a scam.

I like to watch real estate programs on the tv...Saw tonight where a double wide house trailer with no property in Calif. was going for $220,000...

Those people who work must make so much money that costs and taxes are insignificant...And the rest of the people are on welfare...So, who cares???

And more and more producers and employers will be spewing carbon all the way to the state line.

Never to return.

California is not a good place to live because of the high cost of living, burdensome regulations and its just too crowded.

As for starting a business, I’d sooner start a business in Texas than in California.
