Gunman Dead After Shots Fired at Police HQ, Mexican Consulate in Austin
By Alastair Jamieson, Alexander Smith and Jason Cumming
A veteran Austin police officer putting away horses for the night was able to stop a gunman rampaging through the city's downtown early Friday ending the suspect's 10 minutes of terror before anyone was hurt, authorities said.
But police are trying to determine whether the shooter, who had been driving around the Texas capital, was killed during a gunfight with the officer or if he took his own life.

Musta been one of those gun lovin’, bible totin’, racist, hateful, anti meh-eek-ahn despisers. Probably doesn’t believe in glow-bull discombobulation either.
Sounds like my red book.
Sorry about that. I went for keyword “Mexican” in the title but apparently the early one doesn’t have it.
The shooter was identified in a tweet from Austin police as 49-year-old Larry McQuilliam.
Acevedo said he was an Austin resident who had a criminal history.
Odd spellings of old European names often belong to descendants of former slaves. Ditching the plantation family surname entirely wasn’t practical so they pronounced it differently or spelled it differently to set themselves apart. Phifer for Pfeiffer, Hairston for Harston, etc.
This guy who allegedly has a criminal record is allegedly white.
If correct the alternate spelling of McWilliams is unusual, then.
Some of the other misspellings came about at immigration centers, where the clerks were careless.
Maybe that's how Mark McGwire got his unusual spelling.
I also knew a case where two brothers born in the US had different spellings, because the clerk was careless.
"The national debate today about immigration, that certainly comes to mind," Acevedo said. "Political discourse becomes very heated, sometimes very angry. The rhetoric is not healthy."
He could be a Muslim. Or he might just be a mentally ill kook. But let's not miss a chance to pin this on the Tea Party.
Or the climate of hate engendered by right-wing talk radio.
It’s been attributed to near-illiteracy on the part of those bearing the surnames too, but that’s a misconception in the particular instance I brought up. Prior to the nineteenth century, English spelling in general was much less structured even among the educated.
Was he a Tea Party activist?
No apology necessary. Posted only for information purposes.
Is this the dude that torched the Texas Governor’s Mansion a few years ago?
Nah. Anti-social hippy with a major prison record.
Doesn’t resemble recent photos or rather the one on another article. There perhaps is some confusion. Would be normal till sorted. Am constantly confused at my local till the pieces fit. Recent photos resemble some of the ‘occupy’ people from what can ascertain. Recent photos are and add a different light than this photo. Was a facebook account but I do not do facebook.
