He needs to win by a landslide so as to send a message to D.C.
The message should be that the democrats can write off Louisiana in the future.

In terms of modern politics, the Louisiana Democratic Party will likely enter 2015 at its weakest point ever. But in terms of politics dating back to the 19th century, the party of the donkey has been here before, and it has always managed to bounce back.
Democrats were the proverbial underdogs upon their birth here in the mid-1830s, until the Whigs folded and gave way to their first rise. There was another lull during reconstruction as well, but Louisiana Democrats rallied by 1877 and their second coming commenced.
The century that followed was more than kind, with Democrats winning practically every election for governor. It wasnt until names like Treen, Roemer, Foster and Jindal starting chipping away at the streak that a reversal of fortunes even appeared possible.
Now Democrats are on the verge of losing their last statewide elected official, with U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu trailing in the polls. Recent weeks have also seen the party laying off more than a dozen staffers and two top directors as money becomes elusive.
