What Makes Wisconsin's Republican Governor Scott Walker a Good Choice for 2016
Reuters ^ | 11/20/2014 | Grover Norquist & Patrick Gleason

After the GOP’s midterm-elections sweep, the Republican Party holds more U.S. House seats and controls more state houses than at any time since 1928. Having reached this goal, the GOP now needs to look for a 2016 presidential nominee to match this success.

President Calvin Coolidge, who sat in the Oval Office from 1923 to 1929, would be a smart model for the party. He reined in spending and reduced tax rates at a time when it was as needed as it is today. President Ronald Reagan admired Coolidge so much that he hung a portrait of the 30th president in his Cabinet Room.

One talked-about possible 2016 presidential candidate who shares many of Coolidge’s policy bona fides is Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who won his third statewide race in four years on Nov. 4. The two men have so much in common that it is worth seeing what Coolidge’s experience can tell us about a potential President Walker.

I like Walker, sent him some money on multiple elections and have rooted for him vs the union thugs.

Walker has shown firm resolve when things get tough, so he's not a wimp, but it is fair to say, that he doesn't light up the room with his bland personality.

I would rather have substance over style but with tv, facebook, instagram, linkedin, and nearly every young person being guided via ipad, etal, a tv type personality is required.

He'd be a great vp, in the words of cnn....gravitas.

The guy has no charisma. You can’t get a majority excited for someone who’s blah.

Anyone who will match executive orders one by one to undo what Obama has done.

The Left will howl and take it to court, but the argument should be simple: If it is illegal for a Republican President to undo it by EO, then it was also illegal when it was done by EO - it has no legal standing to remain in effect.

Bingo. That one issue, illegal immigration, is a disqualifier for me, for any true conservative.

Go ahead and call me a “purist.” I wear the badge with honor.

he failed to meet state job creation campaign promises

Kind of hard for him to meet the campaign promise when half the WI senate leaves the state, the flee baggers.

With all the shenanigans that went on, not to mention Obama being president, he did fine, and should have another year added to the promise, as businesses don't make long term commitments until they are sure the changes are sticking. The 4 year clock on Walker should start AFTER the recall election for that reason.

He has not demostrated the steely resolve, the willingness to speak the Truth, and the courage to stick it to Obama like Ted Cruz has.

He turned down the train money, and did not set u0p a state exchange. On Act 10, Voter ID, the recall and Concealed Carry he showed plenty of steel resolve.

There was plenty of bait and distractions to get him off message. He doesn't bite. No elected official except Palin has gone through what he has. And he has won three times in four years in a purple state.

It isn't his strong suit. In Wisconsin, he speaks with his actions.Because he is mild in manner, it makes his enemies overreach when they try to paint him as an extremist. He certainly got a strong majority of Wisconsin conservatives excited over him.

If I could pick the US President it would be Allen West. WHAT A MAN!

I suppose it's useless to point out that West is not a well tested popular Republican from a blue northern state?

That’s not a fair comment. And I like Cruz!

Walker has done a lot to live forward conservative ideas into policy in the face of withering opposition in three general election.

Cruz has talked a big game, with only nominal opposition in his one general election, with the next (an off year 2018) offering approximately zero risk to his reelection.

Bingo! We need someone who can articulate our beliefs and make the argument. No more mumble-mouthed, mumble-brained Bush-types.

Jeez, I'd love to read this, being at least minimally interested in the remarkable Scott Walker, and the Coolidge comparison is a valid one that had already occurred to me, and I already lean toward Ted Cruz and will not help Jeb Bush.

Unfortunately, Grover Norquist might as well be an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood, as far as I'm concerned.

Additionally, The ultra liberal Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Madistan papers and media have spent 4 years trying to take Govr. Walker down. Nothing and in fact the ultra rabid John Chisholm Milwaukee Co DA has been embarrased by even the Journal Sentinel saying “enough”. I believe anything that could have been exposed has already been outed.

When we tried the last two candidates from the Midwest(Dole and Romney, not to mention VP candidate Ryan), they were massive flops.

We need a true conservative from the South to win the big one.

I am anxious to get Warren on the Dem ticket. We all know how the Massachusetts libs flame out spectacularly.

The most dangerous ones against us are Southern Dems(think LBJ, Clinton, Carter) as they masquerade as “Good ‘ol boys”

Scott Walker is better than most, sadly, but he allowed his Capitol building to be trashed, and I understand that he is squishy on amnesty. Please correct me if I am wrong. Bob

I actually like Scott Walker. A lot. It has been refreshing to see a Republican politician refusing to compromise with Democrats. Yet with the Norquist endorsement, I now have to wonder what it is that I don’t yet know about Walker.

Are you high? Scott Walker devastated the teachers' unions in Wisconsin. He is the first Republican politician since Reagan who has not backed down against a union.

There aren’t nearly enough Texases, Idahos and West Virginias to get to 270 electoral votes. This is why I’m not yet sold on Cruz as a candidate.

We have to start picking off some “purple” states, and need a candidate who has a track record of convincing the swing voters in those states that sound financial policy and limited government is the only recipe for prosperity.
