Mayor de Blasio is hosting an immigration summit at Gracie Mansion with at least 20 mayors from cities like San Francisco, Seattle and Atlanta, City Hall announced Thursday.
The Dec. 8 summit will address changes and reforms in line with President Obama's soon-to-be-announced immigration orders, de Blasio said.
"This summit will offer a unique opportunity for mayors of many of our nations progressive cities to restate our leadership and responsibility on this decisive issue and to come out with an unbeatable master plan that truly prepares our localities for swift implementation of changes and also advocates for further reforms from the municipal level all the way up to Washington," he said in a statement.
Portland Mayor Michael Brennan, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee have all confirmed they will attend.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, who is also attending, said that one in five of the residents in his city is foreign-born.
"We need to reunite and bring undocumented families out of the shadows, integrating immigrants into our community," he said.
"I look forward to working with Mayor de Blasio and the other mayors who are leading the charge on this issue.
Mayor: Immigration plan not complete - November 21, 2014 - "The presidents plan, while invigorating, is not a complete or permanent solution to all our countrys immigration issues."
He could only find 20 Communist Mayors , WOW
Hope?
As a New Yorker, I can tell you now.... this city is and surrounding suburbs is an illegal’s paradise.
No one, but no one is asked his or her immigration status.
The cops aren’t going to bother finding out and as long as you don’t commit a crime, you don’t get prosecuted for being in the USA illegally.
Heck, even if as an illegal, you were to commit a crime, you’re not going to be deported.
We might as well scrap all immigration laws because in practice, they are never enforced.
Ed Murray is extra special ‘cause he’s gay as well as Commie.
