Is WMAL the only station running the commercials claiming that internet sales need to be taxed, and claiming that it is backwd by local businesses?

1. Real life stores have the advantage of having products that the buyer canwalk away with. Having Iit in hand is a big selling point.
2. How about focusing on reducing your own tax burden? Are you that dumb? Do you not realize lower costs (taxes) causes people to buy more?

The law used to be if you don’t have a store in the state you live you don’t have to pay out of state taxes.

I had out of state customers that would buy in my store and have me ship it to his state so he didn’t have to pay our state tax.

What’s the difference if it’s an internet store out of state?

The question to me is simply “where did the transaction occur?”
If I vacation or travel to another city or state, and I purchase something there,
then I pay the prevailing local sales tax in that city or state.
Defining where the transaction occurs is a bit different
when I buy from ebay or amazon.
I just really don’t know.

If you use the product you purchased in the state you purchased it from then you have to pay their taxes.

Amazon has distribution centers in almost every state I suspect so you are liable for those in state taxes. If it’s from ebay then that seller must collect taxes only if you live in their state...which generally isn’t the case.

As for brick and mortar stores, say Home Depot, even if you buy online there’s most likely a store in your state so you will have to pay instate taxes.

The amount of internet sellers that don’t have an operation in your state is so minuscule it hardly worth the whining, much less the cost the ad council wasted running that ad on WMAL.
