I must agree with the groom on this one. Being a virgin is one thing, but never even having seen the woman's face? This is nuts! It is similar to buying anything at the grocery store without seeing anything, or getting a scoop of purple duck with soursop ice cream and trusting it will be good. Admittedly the analogies are silly, but for God's sake man—marrying a woman without seeing her face? Not in my life, never.

Most of the Mom & Pop groceries around here are owned by Yemanis, so I’ve gotten to know a few of them. A couple of years ago one of the families was arranging a marriage for their youngest son.

I asked him if he was worried about never having seen the girl. He said the the grooms mother and sisters are supposed to check her out. He seemed pretty confident.

His marriage lasted about a year. But it didn’t end over her looks....just personalities.
