tell me about russian panty hose
Local one. Dozens other major brands. Most international brands are making for Russian market in Russia too.
You would be surprised to learn Russia have domestically manufactured HDTVs and smartphones.
US has none at the time. It is probably needed to import parts to make HUD for a fighter jet.
Sorry, fellas. You seems like stuck in the 1980s. I know numerous Russian products I would pick ahead of American or even German.
My memory is better than yours. Yeltsin simply cancelled all notes larger than twenty rubles, thereby confiscating the savings of everyone who was hoarding cash.
EU has worse record in newer history regarding Cyprus.
Newer yes. Worse? Maybe. It's all pretty bad.
~My memory is better than yours. Yeltsin simply cancelled all notes larger than twenty rubles, thereby confiscating the savings of everyone who was hoarding cash.~
Hmmm. I actually remember Yeltsinite era since he was a governor of my state long before becoming a president of Russia.
I can remember a lot of bad things about him but confiscating cash is something really new to me.
You don't remember the cancellation of the ruble notes? How old were you then? That was a big deal.
What year exactly?
Thank you for ably demonstrating you are just as clueless about economics and banking as any typical Russian Communist ever was.
...
Actually typical of almost any politician, anywhere. They all love to destroy their currencies and focus on exports, even though their exports are usually a small fraction of their economies. It should also be noted that a weak currency policy also supports reckless spending, graft, and corruption.
Could you name a few?
Do tell.
Most of all foods, confectionery, furniture, jewellery, some
software, affordable firearms and ammo, fur products, many textiles and so on. Consumer electronics is on par. Russian-built Ford, GM, Renault and FIAT are actually more reliable.
There are radios but it is a niche product these days. And yes, I owned numerous Soviet computers back when.
Ah I got it now. Gorby was used to idiotic things and it was one of his jewels.
He must be happy he wasn’t hanged after the evil empire crumbled.
I think Gorbachev was probably a little stunned at how fast the world moved on. When he finally accepted the obvious and announced his resignation all he heard was crickets. Nobody cared.
Weapons I already covered. Fur products I agree. The top exports after energy are raw materials, such as Iron, Aluminum, Wheat, Gold and Diamonds in that order.
Russia’s top imports are cars and car parts. Kinda makes you wonder about how good the cars are then. Ural motorcycles, which are the only Russian vehicle sold in the US is considered to be the least reliable motorcycle money can buy.
Anyway here is the poop on what they export. Vehicles and electronics don’t even make on the list.

Goods are barely exported not because they are bad but because they are expensive. Costs, especially labor, are very high mostly due to a leftover Soviet labor regulations which are yet to be finally abandoned, but lower ruble is the way to drive costs down.
As for Ural motorcycles it is not the most fitting example. An idea of these motorcycles it that they are factually a 1940s motorcycles, made under 1940s technology - a kind of fetish for people who admires vintage classics.
You can’t expect them to cope with Honda on reliability.
Well I do hope you enjoy your Russian car, stereo and furniture. I'll stick with my German car, American truck, Japanese home theater and Norwegian sweaters.
Warmest Regards,
Boiler Plate
The Soviets did make one vehicle which was said to be quite reliable and well built, the Lada Niva SUV back in the 1980’s. The also made some interesting looking stereo equipment like the Korvet 038 turntable, it had a space look to it, very neat looking.
