Jerusalem, Israel — November 16, 2014 … With deep sorrow, the Israel News Agency announces the passing of Charley Levine.
Beloved husband to Shelly Levine, father to Daniel Levine, Dori Levine Schiowitz and Zvi Levine and grandfather to many.
Levine, a Jewish activist for the State of Israel and one of the most respected Anglos living and working in Jerusalem, made Aliya in 1978.
Charley Levine served as an IDF Spokesperson with the rank of Captain and as a senior media consultant to several Israeli Prime Ministers.
He represented global PR giant Ruder Finn in Israel and later created Lone Star Communications providing media communications to some of Israel’s and the Jewish world's most respected governmental, commercial and non-profit organizations.
Levine was born in 1952 in San Antonio, Texas. He earned his BA with Honors in Philosophy and Near Eastern Studies at New York University and MA with Honors in Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.
He had worked with dozens of international leaders including US Vice President Al Gore, Governor Mike Huckabee, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, Israel President and PM Shimon Peres, Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler, Malcolm Hoenlein, Edgar Bronfman, Cyril Stein, Rupert Murdoch, Ed Koch, Hillary Clinton, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Sam Brownback, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Charley Levine was an active advocate for the release of Jonathan Pollard, an Israeli agent who remains imprisoned in the US.
Levine encouraged Aliya (immigration) to Israel with his successful representation of Nefesh B'Nefesh and fought hard to preserve the Mount of Olives cemetery in Jerusalem.
Levine had been a monthly columnist for Hadassah Magazine since 2002. He won several awards, the most recent of which were first place for “Best International Campaign” and “Best NGO Special Event” from the Israel Public Relations Society.
His wife Shelly owns and operates a successful real estate practice, Tivuch Shelly, Ltd. in Jerusalem.
The Levines live in a suburb of Jerusalem and have three children.
The funeral will take place November 17, 16:00, at Har Hamenuchot – Beit Halvaya HaSfaradi.
