Yes it was. Parnell’s actions were just a give away to oil companies. This “tax” is no more of a tax than the fee natural gas companies pay for putting wells on private land. It is a usage and access fee. The Alaskan people get a return for granting access to the state owned oil resources.

"She felt Parnell betrayed her on an issue. It was too personal and short-sighted an endorsement, ranking even worse than the endorsement of McCain in 2010."

It may have been too personal, but her endorsement of McCain is another matter. She really had no choice about that. To expect her not to endorse the man the chose her in the first place is nuts.

I understand, but given that it was McCain flunkies who tossed her under the bus before the general election of ‘08 even occurred, I’d say she had more than enough reason to exercise a personal grudge to do the same.

Her not supporting McCain would have destroyed the Republican brand for 2010.

Old post, but true.

If the vice presidential candidate for John McCain and the the biggest GOP superstar since Reagan had not supported McCain for reelection for his Senate seat, then it would have meant the destruction of her image, and of the GOP image and it would have been the non stop political story of 2009 and 2010, the division between the ticket of the previous year would have made the Republicans appear broken and shattered and would even have led to a widespread reevaluation of the importance of a Democrat victory in 2008, because it would make the GOP ticket look like it had been a sham, it would have damaged and have prevented this incredible change in public opinion towards the entire republican brand that Palin has helped reshape during the last 17 months.

Palin would have looked cheap and shallow to the general public for turning on the man that 59,000,000 of them voted for, she would easily be painted as a radical and unstable person and a bitter, small timer to the general public.

There is a lot more going on with the national image of the republican/conservative movement here than what we McCain haters see in the Arizona Senate race, the general public does not share all of our perceptions and in depth view of the race between McCain and Hayworth. They would see the Presidential and the vice Presidential candidates of the Republican party at each others throats, clearly signaling that Obama and the Democrats represented stability and calm.

Palin’s image would have never survived, and the entire national, conservative movement would be weaker in reality and in the public’s eye.

I fear for the State now. A good moral man was defeated, and not we get the politically endorsed for spite “independent” squishy who teamed up with a stinking democRAT! Who are going to be running the State!
Thanks Palin you backstabbing......
Alaska will fall further down the tube. Our State spending is poised to go thru the roof, we will end up with a state income tax. Resource development companies will get screwed over and leave.
I’m going to watch carefully because if/when it turns south again, me and my family are gone.

Wow—Sarah is 2 for 2 in Alaska alone.

Hillary is still 0 for 16.

Sarah joins Phil Robertson today for a rally for Cassidy in LA.

Time to sink the SS Mary Landreau.

Palin screwed over her former Lt governor because he axed her oil tax plan in favor of one that is, gasp, actually helping things! But it wasn’t Palin’s plan so knife into the back, and hello independent spineless SOB who teamed up with a Democrat

Sara backed Walker in a snit over Parnell killing off her ACES tax.

With Walker running things, expect to see an exodus of people - working people fleeing before he imposes a State sales and income tax - and legions of welfare maggots showing up to feed on the carcass of a once great State.

HIs co-Governor, Mallot, has repeatedly called for disbursement of the Permanent Fund as a one-time payment. And then ALL of the oil money goes to the State.

Until it runs out of course.....

BTW - since Mallot is a very left-leaning Native (Indian) I suspect identity politics in the Bush had more to do with his ‘win’ than Sara ever did, but believe as you will.

All I know is it won’t be worth sticking around much longer. I’m already looking for land in Eastern Wash/Western ID.

I would have expected no endorsement, but she knows Parnell better than we do

We don't know the behind-the-scenes stuff. I'm sure there is a lot that can't be made public. I trust Sarah's judgement.

+1 Actually Palin was the best Governor I've ever seen up here; I've watched her before she was even on the council in the MatSu and Palin always proved to have the best interests of Alaska as her goal. Palin is the only political that has ever stood up to Big Oil and most Alaskans trust her.

Keep an open mind about Walker, if he doesn't do good, he won't last either. Alaskans are Repubs but also hate how corrupt the old Repub network is; why they are always looking for other conservative candidates. It's time for Parnell to get his position working in the oil industry anyway.

I myself voted for Walker because of Palins endorsement; not worried at all either. Palin knows how it works up here. Just imagine if all across America, conservatives would throw out the corrupt Repubs for better candidates?

where are the purists? where are the screeching condemnations from the high priests of purity? this is FR, where we condemn to hell any conservative for even the slightest infraction.

if this was anyone else, this forum would be holding a public execution right now.

A guy that runs with a Rat is not to be trusted FRiend. Do I have democRAT leaning friends and aquaintences? Yes. Would I ever trust their advice when making decisions of importance? Never. Their loyalties are misplaced and misguided. Teaming up with a leftist shows poor judgment and a severe lack of character.

I know I know, Walker was the only middle roader I voted for. Up here in Ak, from what I have witnessed over the last twenty some years, Alaskans don't trust our Repubs either; look what our Repubs did to Palin during her own tenure. They were worse than the dems until she ran for VP. Every single issue Palin forced through, (Denali Kid Care, Pension problems created by our own Repubs, Oil Price corruption, on and on) our own Repubs fought her tooth and nail; but Palin always put them back in their place. I have to say I trust Palin more than any Party Line Repub.

Everybody is worried about Walker. Take a look at Alaska history and you'll see this has happened many times before. Wally Hickel, ect. If Walker rules like a dem, he'll be history & ineffective. If his team rules in a conservative way, our Repub party up here will improve, less corrupt.
