UPDATED: Russia on Friday warned France of "serious" consequences unless Paris delivers a Mistral-class assault warship, whose handover has been delayed by concerns over Moscow's role in the Ukraine crisis, by the end of this month, a report said.
"We are preparing for different scenarios. We are waiting until the end of the month, then we will lodge serious claims," the state news agency RIA Novosti quoted an anonymous high-ranking Moscow source as saying.
The first of two mammoth Mistral helicopter carriers was supposed to be delivered on Friday according to the original deal signed in 2011 and worth €1.2 billion ($1.5 billion) for both vessels.
Russia's state-run arms dealer had been widely expected to attend a ceremony on Friday for the hand-over.

Right now the Russians are pretty much without a Navy, let’s hope they lose these 2 new ships.
To be honest I don’t understand why does Russia need extensive Navy at all.
I think a purchase of these ships makes no sense and it was probably a stupid political act to prop up bankrupt French shipbuilders and do France a favor for some unknown future benefits.
I actually believe Khrushchev ‘s naval doctrine of a boomer as a main naval force was the most fitting for Russia.
Gorshkov’s doctrine of the 1970s which was about to field a dozen aircraft carriers and outnumber USN in a number of ships was a waste and useless.
Russia is a peaceful nation which is not fomenting takeovers on the other sides of the globe after all.

I suspect that Russia is simply going to go to France and take them, at least if they paid for them already. What are the French going to do about it? Or NATO, for that matter?

BobL, you seem to have a mystified high opinion of Russian school system for some reason. What you imagine is not reality. There is an international study measuring the skills of 14 year old school children and while the USA gets a rather bad average score then white American kids are not doing so badly. Russians kids are not doing well at all scoring the same average as Florida (481 points). Average for white American kids is 518. What brings the overall score of USA down is African Americans only getting 434 points on average.

Horse $hit! Russia, for all of it’s existence, has been second only to Nazi Germany in terms of being an aggressor nation. We should continue to sanction Russia into collapse so they have to oust Putin. World oil price declines are beginning to devastate the Russian economy and that’s a good thing.
