Bill Whittle's TOP 5 Conservative Principles

(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...

TOPICS: Culture/Society; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: afterburner; conservative; whittle
I think Bill Whittle is one of the foremost conservative commentators alive today. Excellent video. Before I got to certain portions, I stopped the video and thought about what he was going to say, and I think a lot of conservatives feel the same way he does.

I know I do.

I’m not thrilled with his list.

Here’s mine:

5. The preservation and protection of marriage and the natural family.
4. The protection of our national sovereignty, national borders, and national security.
3. The keeping of the sacred oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
2. Equal protection for God-given, unalienable, individual natural rights.
1. God-given, unalienable, individual natural rights, starting with the right to life.

A list of ten would be better, but his thesis only allowed for five, so I stuck with that.

That was excellent. I think the guy is brilliant. Very interesting, too. Seems to understand his own faults and limitations pretty well.

He has talked about running for President, not to win, but to enter the debate and discourse and be able to say what he thinks needs saying, unbound by the limitations of pandering to an electorate or a party.

I like the idea. He understands conservatism.

I had a 40 minute conversation with Sarah Palin about 4 years ago. That is basically the advice I gave her. Not that I was her primary source of such advice, but she seems to be doing just that, and driving the liberals nuts.

“Equality of Opportunity” is a pretty vague term. Obviously not everyone has the same opportunities. Someone born on the wrong side of the tracks usually has fewer and that is not completely correctable in any way that would be considered conservative. I think it would be better to define exactly what is meant by this.

I respectfully disagree.

One of the great things about this country is that if you are willing to get ahead, willing to work hard, and willing to leverage what gifts God has given you, you can succeed.

Not everyone has the same gifts. And the breaks don’t always fall your way even if you do work hard.

The history of this country is chock-full of people born on the wrong side of the tracks who made it big in spite of it.

I have always enjoyed Dinesh D’Souza’s book “What’s So Great About America” because it illustrates the vast chasm between what we have here and what most parts of the world have.

I think he defines it quite well by contrasting it with the liberal notion of equality of results.

That’s great! Must have been a great experience. I am a big fan of Palin, and I love it when the libs are gripped by PDS!
