Man Often Confused for Eric Frein Accepts a Major Donation

East Stroudsburg, Monroe County – A man who was repeatedly mistaken for murder suspect Eric Frein got a major gift from the community, more than $20,000.

James Tully, of Canadensis, said law enforcement mistook him for Frein at least twenty times during the manhunt. He said he walks about two hours each way to work. During the nearly seven-week search for the suspect, police often stopped Tully to question him. Once he said a law enforcement officer forced him to the ground. He suffered bruised ribs.

After that incident, someone started an online fundraiser at gofundme.com to buy him a car. "Everybody wanted to help out and it was like a silver lining to the manhunt and everything,” said organizer Dawn DeBiase. She didn’t personally know Tully when she started the fundraising page. She was just touched that a man walked ten miles a day to support his two children, ages 11 and 4. Tully told Eyewitness News his previous car was so old that it broke down and was too expensive to repair. "He's working hard. He's hard working. He wants to support his children. He's not begging for money. He didn't ask for the money,” said DeBiase.

The fundraiser grew faster than anyone imagined. "I think the higher the number went, the lower my jaw got,” laughed Tully. Nearly 1,000 people donated.

It became so popular the Tully asked DeBiase to stop collecting. He said the $24,217 raised was plenty. After Gofundme and its fund distribution company took their share, he ended up with about $20,000. Tully said he won’t have to pay taxes on that because no individual donation was above $1,400. Financial experts told him he could consider the individual donations as gifts that aren’t taxed.

Now THIS is charity in the right direction. The man has demonstrated his determination to work ,unlike those who sit on their lazy butts and demand freebies.

Good for him !

A matching amount (at minimum) should be required from the gestapo goons who've apparently not heard of (or simply chose to trample on) the 4th Amendment.

I know some FBI agents on this manhunt - they would actually give him a ride to work so the state troopers would not harras him...

Not only that, but he asked that fundraising be stopped after it had reached a certain level?

I’m really glad for him. This is what immigrants were all about way back when we began.

"...Once he said a law enforcement officer forced him to the ground. He suffered bruised ribs...

That officer needs to be identified and prosecuted and then sent to prison.

Anything less is injustice.
